Disabling Sounds From Neighboring Builds

Is there some way to mute the sound on my land from a neighboring plot? The build next door plays a certain piece of music every hour on the hour, and it's starting to make me a little nuts. I'm new here, and they aren't trying to be rude, since no one else lives as close to it as I do, so I just want some way to disable sounds from outside my land from being heard within my land. Is there a way to do this?

there is an option in the land properties menu, under media "restrict spatialized sound to this parcel" I'm not completely sure on how the option works, but you can try that out

This is one of my pet peeves.

LL have it all wrong, instead of being able to stop sounds coming into your land you can only stop sounds going out.

If you ask your neighbour to turn on the land option to "Restrict Local Sound to Parcel"
then the noise will not leave their land.

File a bug report too, this method is a bad way of doing it, we need tools to stop neighbouring local light and local sound from interfering with our land.

You might also like to know that extremely loud sounds are considered by LL to be greifing.
If you neighbour refuses to co-operate you could file an AR.

Erm... When I set "Restrict spacialised sound to this parcel", it works both ways, stopping sound from outside and stopping it from going out. I know it used to only work stopping sound going out...

Well that's cool if they've changed it :) didn't notice it on any release notes.

Its, err, been like that since the beginning. I know, we danced a jig of joy at the Aerodrome when it was added because of the constant noise from Cordova Sandbox a sim over.

Also,

if that doesn't work try adjusting your audio in "preferences" and push the "rolloff" and "distance" sliders towards the RIGHT to decrease, if you move them LEFT it increases those effects. I've found these help to reduce noise of all sorts from neighboring parcels from music to other various sound effects which yes can become very annoying after awhile.

Griefing sounds seem to be somewhat overlooked by the existing land tools.

Vote for prop 244!! :D

Thank you! I just tested the checkbox a minute ago and silence is bliss! Lyric - thank you for explaining the sliders. I was, of course, using them in the wrong direction. I wish there was a wiki page explaining the 1001 settings in the preferences dialog.

Noise griefing is obnoxious, but that isn't likely what is going on in this case. The music is reasonably soft, and the only other things bordering the property until I got it two weeks ago were billboards along a road and prim land. You know what it's like when you get music in your head though. :)

It absolutely was not like that when I started.

I always feel sorry for people who live next to my shop. I have some annoying sounds in gestures.

One slight problem - turning on "Restrict spacialised sound" has killed the crickets and birds I used to hear. Is there somewhere to get the "land" sounds? It would be great if there was a script out there that had them run at the same rate as they do now, but if I can at least get the sounds then I can try to script them to run at the same rate.

Well of course I'm no expert on this, I can only speak from experience but...you may have adjusted those sliders too far too the right. You can fine-tune how much environmental sound you want or don't want from working with the rolloff and distant sliders until you get close to what you want. However it may be you won't be able to hear the crickets and birds without hearing that song too. Sometime its a trade off and not always a perfect solution.

I don't know what turning on/off the spatialized sound does. I always thought it referred to streaming land music and not sound effects, like one single song that keeps repeating.

Either way, I'm just glad it worked! I can get other sounds to replace the natural ones. Thanks!

We need to be able to disable images from neighboring parcels, not just sounds.

There's a freebie "enviromental sound effects" player you can get, check in Yadni's Junkyard maybe?
