Update on design rip off @ Club Schmooze

Whatever happened with that incident regarding the Tya Fallinbridge club "Schmooze" being copied? This got a whole lot of attention and then nothing. Did the person who copied Tya have to take down the copy?

I'd put it about the same level as that legal guy who ripped off the auction system then complained that he couldn't claim his stolen goods and decided to file a lawsuit.

After approx. 15 seconds of thought, I think good deeds are fictional in SL

Anyway, I do happen to know. It was replaced a week or so later w/ something really clever, which was then taken down maybe a month-ish ago due to downsizing.

You hear people threatening to sue one another etc. I wonder if anyone in SL has done that yet over copying issues.

He's not the only one in SL or on these forums who have said or implied that they might sue. Just curious if anyone ever sued another resident over something like copying.

I doubt it. There would need to be a substantial financial loss that can be proven.

Plus, the burden of proof is on you.

Hope you documented the hell out of everything and have witnesses in triplicate.

Oh yeah, and a ton of money to pay RL lawyers.

Judge: "where is your representation and why is he not present in this courtroom?"

"well, your honor, I have virtual representation.... he's having trouble teleporting because the sim is fulll"

Judge: "virtual representation? teleporting?prim? texture? sim? Lindens?"

OMG!! There's a market that hasnt started yet!! SL Lawyers!!!

There'd be SL lawyers if there were any sort of valid mediation provided by Linden Labs.
LL hasn't realized yet that a majority of problems between residents, and bickering could be resolved by an in world court house.

And how is a court going to be any more valid mediation than the current system? And which entirely impartial and unbiased people are going to make the judgments? Lindens? I think not. Residents? No bloody way.

And how are people going to present reliable evidence? And how are you even going to get the parties to court? You think if I get a summons to answer for actions that someone else didn't like that I'm going to bother to turn up? Think again. That might be how you want to play your SL, but it doesn't and wont figure in my SL.

I think the reason LL havent done anything of the sort is because it is a bad, bad, bad idea. Unless you think we need more drama, I guess.

In a roleplay situation, a court would work if all players were consenting. For the average player, you are 100% correct, forget it.

Why would you have any need to show up? There's no reason why you couldn't be tried without being present, if you chose not to be present. The important part would be that the trial and verdict be a matter of public record. There'd be no cause to COMPEL anyone to defend their actions, as long as they don't mind the record.

Which is exactly how it is now! you're tried and convicted and punished without any recourse based on LL's 'evidence'. Soooo why change it at all? We can rename the AR system to Kangaroo Court and I won't mind if that helps?

Sounds like forum warnings... except you don't find out what the evidence is, or have any chance to appeal against it.

What I get from the replies are that pursuing anyone over copying is pretty futile and that anyone really threatening about it, is pretty much just that "threatening".

I am not saying to go have a hay day copying other peoples work but I don't see any disincentive to a copy cat either. Public scorn is about as hot as it gets. The big ding might be you get a notice to take down your objects/textures and that is about the extent of all that.

I am thinking this idea of in-world mediation could work only in instances where both parties agree to resolve their dispute through the mediation.

Only thing that matters right now is that the original and real Schmooze is alive and licking...errr, kicking I mean...had a hell of a wild party there tonight with the return of "Metal Tuesdays" on XTSL Radio.
Way to try and drag old drama up LOL...see ya next Tuesday

I agree with Queenie- Schmooze is alive, Polyesters is dead, so is the issue, leave it be and rock the house at Schmooze, way more fun and Q is a killer DJ
