Today, I'm over 100 days old, so I feel that my "noobness" is long behind me. I noticed in the many updates one thing remains consistent. The "Gestures" dropdown in the chat menu. I'm surprised that no one has ever considered what I'm about to propose. How many of you actually use that dropdown? For me, activating and then typing the / is much quicker than to click on the menu, search and hope to click on the right gesture. I say we need to do away with that and replace it with a Landmark dropdown. That would be much more useful than those silly gestures that at one time or another someone wears out with that laughing / snort. It's cute in the beginning.......... but I digress. A landmark dropdown would not only be more useful, but a time saver. If we can "activate" the landmarks we most frequently use, we would be able to get to them faster than rummaging through Inventory. For those of you who may have more than one parcel or business, it would benifit you greatly, as it would definately save time and we all know that with the occasional "lag", time is something that we never have enough of. I'd love to get some feedback on this and have included a poll with this threat. If I can get enough people to review and vote, maybe in a future release, we will have just what we need. Spead this Post to your friends, let them voice their opinions and when I get enough feedback, will post the vote here so everyone can follow up. Brightest Blessings to all and thank you for your time in reading this. Sky

Noob or not...

From: Red Mars noob You still have an opinion. Try playing with the gestures in the dropdown, then go to your landmarks. You will see that you use landmarks much more than gestures. Yet, the time it takes to go to landmarks versus clicking the dropdown....well you'll see.

i click on the map button... and to be honest, i never really noticed the gestures button on the chat... i also have the option to open/close the chat bar apon hitting enter.. so for me hitting enter and dragging the mouse right next to the map button doesnt save any time, + as im looking at it, that dropbox is tiny.. so LL would probally have to redo some UI (snicker im not gonna say it) BUT! Grats on 100 days and keep up the thoughts... we need more thinking (and less stinking) round here anyways

Sorry can't resist... you can use the Landmark Pal instead of fiddling around with landmarks in your inventory.

In a whole year I have never used my landmarks really, and use the gesture dropdown menu almost daily. Personally I do not even find landmarks THAT useful. I mean for some people that have no memory it might be, but I pretty much go to same places over and over again and I remember the name, I just use Find/Places, or Find/People and click their Picks. But gestures sometimes are no modify, and the trigger that was chosen to play this or that particular anime might not be the one you would have chosen, exemple "/igtp" could be I Got To Pee gesture, but I can never recall its that... So therefore you keep forgetting it. Then, you just use the drop thing! Sooo nope, to each his/her own!

I'd like to have even easier access to a gesture controller, sort of like the simple list that appear with the gesture dropdown, but with options for controlling the color and transparency of the text and background, and a toggle keystroke for hiding and showing it.
Often times I forget to make the clap gesture for approval till a second too late, then it takes another second to find the right one, especially if my reading glasses have escaped again.
I rarely used the landmarks, and when I do, the list on the map works fine.

I always used Gestures and Landmarks in my Inventory. What's I'd much prefer in the chat bar are privacy controls, a drop down with the following options:
AVAILABLE AWAY FROM KEYBOARD BUSY INVISIBLE OFF-LINE
This drop down should also be available next to the "password" field of the log in screen so you can log in without being seen.
Regards,
-Flip

You already HAVE a landmark dropdown!
02-24-2006 06:57
From: Sky McGann TI say we need to do away with that and replace it with a Landmark dropdown. Why? What's wrong with the landmark dropdown on the map? From: Khamon Fate Now my landmarks in a dropdown menu on the map would be very nice yes It's in there, look over on the right side.

I've never used many animations or gestures. It'd probably be polite for me to participate; but I just don't want to take the time to keep up with them. But then my av is all sliders too except for the eyeballs and odd hat or coffee cup attachment.
Now my landmarks in a dropdown menu on the map would be very nice yes, Put my picks in that list too please. Well never mind; picks are for other people to see and use, I can landmark a pick to add it myself.

Maps - another screen.
02-24-2006 10:47
From: Argent Stonecutter Why? What's wrong with the landmark dropdown on the map? It's in there, look over on the right side. The dropdown in the map is what's wrong - it's in the map. Don't misunderstand, I use it myself. My thought is directed on the main screen, not on the map sub-screen. (then why not put the landmark dropdown on the mini map?) I'm looking at a more user friendly experience - well from this users POV. Remember that the reason for this forum is also to obtain other ideas which will be worth gold to everyone.

Two other suggestions:
02-24-2006 10:59
From: Demian Caldera Best suggestion ever! The "set busy" mode will keep you from being bothered if your busy (or can't be bothered). You can still walk around your second life and do the things you want to do, but will get no chat and no IM's. I like your suggestion too though, because there are times when I want to just work and can't. The second one is to stop giving you "Friendship". I read in a thread about this some time ago. You can give your card instead. This way, if it's someone you keep in contact with rarely, you'll still be able to keep in contact with them. I apologize, I don't have the link to how, but know that if you right click the person, choose more and then I believe - give card - it will provide them with a copy of your card without adding them to your friends list. You can search the forum for the exact thread. I again apologize I don't have it. (Will look for it later then post it as well) Here is the link for the above mentioned: /invalid_link.html

This is a really terribly constructed poll. I think it must be the worst poll I have ever seen here.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville This is a really terribly constructed poll. I think it must be the worst poll I have ever seen here. I am open to suggestions to make it better. You snide the poll, yet offer no additional feedback on it's enhancement. Really now....
