Texture CopyRight Question

I hired a builder for my project and the builder used textures they purchased from a company in SL. I know it is okay for them to make projects using the textures and reselling them, no copyright issue there.

The question is, I may have to make repairs or alter the building in some way and do not want to call the builder over for these little things, is it acceptable that I use the textures (same ones when built) when I do these repairs, OR should I also look at compensating this store for the use of their textures?

Well if it's a custom build, and you can BUY the textures from the same store he did then there is no problem. But, if he did it custom, I don't think it would be out of line at all to ask for a folder of the textures he used on your building for fixes. If he had made them himself, then ya it would be diff...but if he just went to one of the texture stores in SL, it's cool to go buy them, or even ask the builder. Not a big deal at all

You should ask that builder if you can use the textures on THAT BUILD. If they agree, you should not use the textures in anything else other than for what it was meant. I gave some textures to someone I thought I could trust to use in a prefab they bought from me. They are now continuing to use my textures in building structures and selling items with it. Not cool.

So yes, ask and then use it for that purpose. (Smiles)

Yes, absolutely..if the builder is nice enough to fork over the textures, for you to fix the building yourself..then ya, I wouldn't use those on anything else. Especially if he/she paid for them in the first place. What he/she may offer as well is putting mod/copy/no trans on the the textures so you are free to use them on your build, but not sell/give them away
