I have been debating whether to post this cause it's kinda negative, but tonight is the beginning of Chinese New Year which is a REALLY BIG DEAL in my town. There is a huge parade and events for many days that involve the entire community and not just the Chinese folks (I am not Chinese BTW).

I was wondering since LL is right in San Francisco, and since the Chinatown there is, (or at least used to be recently) the BIGGEST Chinatown in North America, how come there isn't a peep I can see anywhere about Chinese New Year?

I haven't seen a single post in the forum or a single SL event related to this.
Isn't that a bit odd? :)

Seems like this is a cultural event and would be up to people celebrating the event to initiate a celebration in SL. I think it would be a fun event to attend and would hope that events like this start to occur in SL.

Actually, the library folk have jazzed the place up for the Chinese New Year. Sig link should deposit you there, if you're interested.

I had no clue until I logged in earlier to see it. :D

Here, if you have sigs off.

I don't know. Doesn't seem like it to me. Perhaps those that care enough are off doing something fun.

There are now a couple of events. You know how people are about posting events. 24 hours of notice is a miracle.

Well, a friend wished me Happy New Year tonight!

And afterwards - in totally unrelated frivolity - the penguin threw up in the hot tub while wearing a pan for a hat, we took turns freezing in a freezer, spun the dreidel, rezzed Linden cutouts, etc. Just your average night, really.

Dianne, i don't think this is negative at all.. it's a reasonable thought process actually. sure, it's a bit surprising.. then again, it's LL/SL, so (to quote Perry F.), "nothing's shocking". ;)

on the other hand, a small note on this thread.
is this General or Off Topic? going by strict definitions, it's related to RL events, so it would warrant being an Off Topic discussion.. BUT, it involves LL/SL, therefore laying its' claim to General. ack!!

(don't worry.. i'm just being silly here) :p
