Any comments on the new blog site? From: Robin Linden New and Improved Linden Blog It's here! The official Linden Lab blog !. We've switched to a unified blog, with authors from across the company -- ops, development, community, marketing, and the web development teams. You'll get to know more Lindens, and if you have a favorite blogger, just click on their name on the right to see all their posts. As always, comments welcome!

Until recently you would go to the site and get a outdated link to New World Notes with a real old NWN entry. This has bugged me for months. Who actually reads the blogs? There's only so much time in a day. Would it make sense to reduce forum reading time by the time required to read the blogs? I guess once you got caught up on the blogs the new entries wouldn't take to much time. If they have a fairly linear text structure I can make Opera read them to me out loud.

I've been reading them off and on this afternoon between meetings. I am really liking them because you get to know the Lindens a bit better, thus "humanizing" them, rather than thinking of them as avatars with a microchip for a brain and a machine for a body. Their voices and personalities come through loud and clear, which is reassuring.

They are finally listening to us, i note on LL page, they have a customer service manager job listed...perhaps they do want to impliment a change, i have hopes that they are. Brents new deal to handle exploits is a good move too...ok call me susie sunshine, i think they have listened and are making changes...

Still seems to me unnecessary duplication, when these official forums should be primarily used for important community news.
I know 'blogging' is trendy and all that, but it just seems an extra step of inconvenience rather than using the proper channels.
What next... Lindenspace, so we can all put pictures up and link up with our friends in a cool and exciting way?

Good move putting a "first reporter" bounty. That's sure to keep people tight-lipped =)) If the system works then it would be a good idea to make it semi-permanent to permanent, if only for the tight-lip factor. It would also encourage people to look for exploits. All the better to get them stamped out early.

If only they were as consciencious about bugs as well, and gave rewards for reporting them when they were actual genuine bugs.
Because, of course, if they had proper testing procedures, and faith in their product, then we wouldn't find enough to make it pay.

Lewis On the contrary; I'd wager it's the other way around for most companies. Forums are primarily user-to-user communication tools; a blog is more an author-to-many users tool, like a broadcast medium. Sure, the nature of software means some forums are blog-like and some blogs are forum-like (just look at Slashdot!), but I think they serve seperate and distinct purposes.
