Murphy's Law hits SL

So I've been really up in arms about the increase in griefers.

And this last patch has really annoyed me too.

And in accordance with the principles of Murphy's Law...today the worst that could happen...did.

Some newbie guy comes in. Sets down a small nuke in the middle of a group of friends and customers in my store and....I see it before he sets it off, so I'm like oh hell, better sit down.

And because of the new bugs introduced with the 1.11.0 patch....surfaces that I used to be able to sit on instantly in my build...walls, flat furniture spaces, whatever, now no longer allow me to sit on them without tons trying.

So heres my chatlog from the event.
[17:38] <name removed>: wtf is that?
[17:39] No room to sit here, try another spot.
[17:39] There is no suitable surface to sit on, try another spot.
[17:39] No room to sit here, try another spot.
[17:39] There is no suitable surface to sit on, try another spot.
[17:39] No room to sit here, try another spot.
[17:39] There is no suitable surface to sit on, try another spot.
[17:39] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:39] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:39] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:39] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:40] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:40] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!
[17:40] Object: Ka-Boom!!!!

So of course I go flying...everyone that wasn't already sitting down goes flying...and I have to get the people to send another flurry of ARs to Linden Labs that might get this one account banned for 3 days if we're lucky but won't really stop the person/kid from coming back and doing it again.

And whats more the surface I was trying to sit on was a desktop surface in my lobby that up til the recent patch never once told me I couldn't sit on it. And apparently other people had been having similar troubles which is why they were all standing.

So just goes to show...when you think things are bad, stands to reason that they can still get worse.

My only legal defense against this kind of behavior is to sit down on something and report the person.

And now the Lindens have made it to where I can't even sit down easily anymore without having a poseball somewhere handy just for this kind of random jack-assery.

And whats more I didn't even have time to freeze the guy because the pie menu for doing that takes far too long to get to and activate and 30 seconds frozen is nothing unless you want to stand there and continue clicking on them over and over...which is hard to do while attempting to warn people of whats going on, file an AR and...oh yeah, flying through the air for several sims because YOU CAN'T SIT DOWN ON ANYTHING EASILY ANYMORE.

Very angry. Very frustrated.

As a Land Owner, I demand more control. Period.

I noticed the sit issue myself. In the preview grid i was in luskwood. Usually near the vendors those benches usually work... :/

If you need, i can give you a non Physical Vehicle Ball to help you move around unpushable. it might not be a fix for the bug but it will help until the lindens do something about it. Hopefuly the Push Restrictions will actually go through in be in this wednesdays patch.

Is this happening to you....

you go to click someones profile and it asks them to be your friend....HOW EMBARASSING.

also, sucks when you click an object and the pie menu skips to hte next options before you can select. I have deleted things I dont want to either.

I keep autopiloting trying to examine land settings. It's quite disconcerting.

Uhm....if you saw it before he set it off, why didn't you just right click on it and delete it?

Because my first instinct was to sit down and then deal with things AFTER I couldn't be affected.

I mean if you notice there there was all of about a minute to react and part of that was mucking around trying to sit down.

Uhm....If you deleted it (then freeze the jerk), it can't affect you. Takes the same amount of time to delete an object as it does to sit on one .

Just saying, you know, for next time maybe. Personally, I always believe that if I have learned something, it wasn't a total waste. ;)

Autopilot! That's the word I was looking for, that items keep telling me about when I'm trying to put them in edit.

And here's another thing - I think it is probably related to this sit pickiness - you can't click on a thing to edit it without it's acting real picky.

Half the time it acts like you didn't. (Having me wondering if my computer has lost connection to the game.)

First I thought I just had to be REAL CLOSE to the item. Cause when I moved in closer, it worked. I mean REAL close.

Then I discovered that that didn't always work, because it was being picky about the angle of approach to it.

Since at least several updates ago, items have been increasedly picky about being set out. "This item can't be placed."

Ok, well I can live with that.

But my experience with the edit window is that it's now acting the same way. Except there is no message; it just doesn't respond.

Sounds to me like the same thing as is being noticed with trying to sit.

It's like the angles of approach have been reduced. I'm wondering if, say, there were 360 degrees of angle approach allowed (this is vastly simplified), but, to save space or something, they narrowed the angles down to 180. So that each time you click on something, if you are at the odd-numbered angle instead of the even-numbered one, it won't work.

I WANT ALL THE ANGLES BACK!

Trying to build is lots harder when you have to talk every object into letting you edit it.

(And that's to say NOTHING about the way the pie menu acts once you get it to show up.)

Bleh.

I have noticed this fussiness too. It does seem to be all about the camera angle. Close to you, not viewing too much from behind or above, that sort of thing. It's not like the biggest thing in the world, but like all these sorts of things, you have a workflow, a way you do things without having to think, and then all of a sudden... ohh... and then you have to switch off autopilot, and try to adjust again. It's not that easy to break a habit that has become totally automatic to you when building.

It's not actually always that easy to do these things in the best order, and efficiently. You're all over the interface to do each thing, and things can sometimes be a bit chaotic. Unless you've dealt with it a lot, it's not like a video game, where the moves are practised, and you automatically hit a keystroke combination cos you've done it a thousand times.

And you can start out ordered and have things erupt on you. I've only been truly griefed once, recently. The first guy came through the wall, no problems, freezed him, went to hit the AR and take a snapshot. Before I could do that, two more I wasn't even aware of came crashing in too, shooting the hell out of us. I try to freeze them, but I can't, all of a sudden, there's dozens of giant penises self-replicating in front of them. So I have to deal with that more urgently, so back to about land, refresh owners, select it, make sure I don't press the wrong thing, and return my stuff... then it's too out of hand to try freezing, I just have to switch off access.

At which point it ends, but that AR I never completed has missed it's photo opportunity. And 'did you catch their names, cos I only got one?' (PVP was gone at the time). It might be well practised for some, but for those of us who aren't always exposed to it, you'll just have to excuse us for not being a +60 griefer slayer.

So it's possible to freeze someone??

I've been only griefed once on my land and its a pain to stop it. I just didn't know what the heck was going on at first.

Yeah, it's like that isn't it? On your land, you can right-click the avatar, and select freeze... I think it works for 30 seconds. Also, you can right-click, and eject. :)

Oh mcgeeb, I forgot, you might have to go to 'more' to see those options after you right-click. Can't remember, only had to do it the once.

Just investigated this. What's happening is that the object will let you sit once. After you stand up the object now thinks there's no place to sit.

It's a server-side/object issue since logging out does not clear the condition. Re-rezzing the item clears the condition.

Still trying to make it reliably replicable because not all objects are affected.

Last night i ran through and set all the benches in luskwood to left click sit, that seems to work much better for people, and is only a fraction of the effort needed to repeat, if the first one fails.

I've actually encountered poseballs that said "There is no suitable surface to sit on, try another spot." since 1.11. I mean, that's the only reason they exist!
