O'reilly has a few blurbs from Cory and Ian Linden in their blog...

http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2006/04/web_20_and_databases_part_1_se.html

They talk about mostly back-end stuff that's a bit over my head. I'd take a few stabs at it, but I'm no technical wizard. It sounds like they're redoing the entire backend of SL to be a) more flexible, b) cheaper to run, c) more robust, and d) more standards compliant. End result: SL is faster, more open (tech-wise), and more reliable.

It'd explain why 1.9.0 was such a sad point release.

Also, I'm amused highly that Ian used "One Database All Hail The Central Database". Seems like you infected the Lindens, Khamon.

I thought it even funnier that he used it twice.

They said Ian joined 4 years ago, so I imagine at that stage they were in alpha or so... probably a lot of shit had to be changed since then.
