I really like the client, its easy to use and all, but I have no idea what I'm doing... I'm still using the free package until I know my way around a bit better but I would appreciate some assistance? Was looking at buying land and yes I know you need to have a premium membership but whta I'm confused about is this: You're first upgrade for land ownership, thats with no extra monthly fees correct?

I haven't tried out the building tool yet cuz I'm not sure exactly the purpose of building on someone else's land :P

Any replies are appreciated :D

Welcome to SL, Kahlan!

To answer your question:

When you upgrade from Basic to Premium, it costs US$9.95/month (cheaper if you pay in advance).

Included in your premium membership is:

-Incresased weekly stipened (L$500/week)

-The privlidge of owning up to 512m of land tax-free (Note: you still have to aquire/buy the land first).

As far as building with the build tool: there are sandbox sims where you can build to your heart's content regardless of being the landowner. You just need to take things back into your inventory when you're done.

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the info! So then let me ask you this: If I want to get a small space of land thats being sold for the community currency not USD (which is what I'd pay) Then its no charge (other than the USD I paid for the credits I have) is that right?

Make sure the first land you buy is 'first land' - its 512 L$ for 512 sqm (which allows you to use 117 prims)

For building, try Sandbox Island...although the weirdness level there can be rather high...and it can be congested. Sometimes the privately owned sandboxes are more conducive to building, I find. Just search for sandbox under your Find Place dialogue, you'll find lots of places to try out.

Pretty much:

Say you see a 512m parcel for sale that you like for L$1000. You've upgraded to premium already, and are paying the $9.95/month. You pay the seller L$1000 for this property, now its yours.

Correct - you'll pay nothing additional on a monthly basis on top of that.

By the way: Make sure you check out First Land before you consider purchasing land from another player. First land is land at a deeply discounted rate for those who have never owned land before. All of the 512m parcels are L$512.

Wow! Thanks y'all :D I was so worried that when I upgrade to premium I was still gonna have to pay out more money just to use anything... This helps me so much! I've made things in other 3D modelling programs and a friend of mine told me about this place cuz she thought I was wasting my time making stuff and not getting anything for it :P

I'll prolly upgrade to premium here soon then...

If you have anything else you think I should knows please tell me :D

Welcome to SL, Kahlan! As for what else you should know ...

If you'd like to get some extra money to spend in-world, use the LindeX. You can access it by clicking the sign in the top-right corner of your SL interface, or you can get to it through your account here on the site, by going into your account, then scrolling down to "Buy $L" in the left-hand column.

Want to learn how to build here? Keep an eye on events that will help you learn how. You can check the Events listing in-world by choosing the Find tab at the bottom of your screen, and then clicking the Events tab. Learn everything from how to make fountains, to how to make balloons, flowers, tables, or hats. Most classes are free.

Also, when you're in-world, stop by the Ivory Tower of Primitives. It's a great resource for learning how to build.

Good luck! :)

What's a temp-on-rezzer?

A "temp-on-rezzer" is an object marked "Temp on Rez" in the properties dialogue. This basically means that it'll appear for a couple of minutes then disappear. One of the main advantages of this is that these objects don't add to your prim count, and therefore you can create loads of them!

Temp-on-rez objects are usually spawned by a rez script.

Hope this clarifies:

Yes you must have a premium account to accuire land.

As a landowner, you are allowed to own up to 512 square meters of land at any time without paying any monthly maintenance (or tier fee). So the only out of pocket you have for that amount of land is the original cost of the land purchase itself. (in in-game currency L$)

Also as a 1st time land owner, the Lindens occasionaly offer special land buying deals. It is called "FIRST LAND" And you may purchase first land for L$512 (L$1 per sq meter). This offer is for any premium account that has never owned any land previously. Hense the term FIRST LAND. Again, there will be no other cost to you other than the purchase price, it has no monthly maintenance fee to hold 512 sq meters of land or less.

I hope this helps better answer your questions.

land fees
05-11-2006 17:34
Hi,

I'm new too, I've been in SL for about three weeks so far. I upgraded to a premium account, and bought 512m2 of "first land" to experiment with.

From what I understood, when you own land, you are charged a monthly use fee. For the 512m2 size, it's an extra $5 USD per month on top of the membership fee. Am I wrong about this?

By the way - my little plot of land is surrounded by ugly casinos and sprawl - so I'm playing around with some fun ideas that would be some kind of response to the dismal surroundings...

You must be experiencing lagquakes in that environment.

Still, given the locale, maybe you should open a chapel or a mission... :)
