I have seen some of the 3D panoramic images inworld that show realworld scenes in SL, placed on a sphere.

I am wondering if anyone has gone the other direction, taking shots of the SL world and stitched them together using a progarm like Real Viz Stitcher to make a 3D image somewhat like the one at http://www.metalvortex.com/myphotos/thailand/grand_palace_panorama.htm

No, but that is the coolest idea since sliced cliche'.

I requested the same thing here but it didn't seem to be a very popular idea. I think it might have noticeable potential for various endeavors to bridge the gap between in-game and real-world.... particularly for people like the fellow from Make magazine who was gearing up his own multiverse VR rig.

EDIT: What I really want is not so much the ability to stitch photos together, which requires taking several snapshots at timed intervals.... possibly losing the flow of action, like if the people in "front" of you are jumping up and down while the people "behind" you are just standing there. I want the ability to take a single snapshot that looks in all directions at the same time.... and then paste that snapshot inside of a sphere so that it can be viewed. The snapshot would only be useful if viewed on the inside of a sphere, or with the aid of a viewing tool like Quicktime VR (which basically emulates putting the image on the inside surface of a sphere).

*IF* this were possible, it would probably require turning down the draw distance (or beefing up one's graphics card) in order to handle drawing an image of the world that looks in all directions at the same time.
