Robin, Philip and Torley have all said over and over, report abuse. To me it seems a pointless effort with all the accounts. What are they really going to do any how?
One look at the police blotter shows the action
Friday, June 16, 2006
Violation: Terms of Service - Under Age
Description: Accounts on both the Main and Teen grids.
Action taken: Suspended 14 days.

So we can see how serious it is.
Now the blotter runs from June 15- 27
In all that time we have
Suspended 14 days. Accounts on both the Main and Teen grids
Suspended 14 days. Sexual Threats against another Resdident
Suspended 7 days. Use of weapons.
Suspended 3 days. Obscene group name x 2
Warning issued Logging into another Resident's account.
Warning issued Obscene group name x 6
Warning issued R/X-rated text/pict in profile x10
Warning issued Using real-world trademarks
Warning issued Trees sticking over the parcel boundaries

25 Offenders. in 12 days. Not one Griefer. Not one Ban and hey for loggin in to anothers account it is only a warning.

BLOW me away that having accounts on both servers is a 14 day suspention. But one assumes they just registered other accounts.

Does this instill confidence in the Report abuse system?

This person could have given the password to someone they trusted, then the person turned around and stole items from them. Each case is different and the police blotter uses very general descriptions.

"Dear Second Life Resident,

Your Abuse Report has been investigated and resolved...."

when you receive this note from LL, does that mean LL has repremanded or taken action against the offender? Or does that just mean the case is closed?

Something to remember, when someone receives a 14 day suspension, they are usually automatically placed up for permanent banishment. In other words, it's the final step before being banned permanently.

Thats actually really good to know Jeska. Thank you for telling us that, I doubt most people knew it.

Unfortunately that is part of the problem. We never know what has happened with our abuse reports. It would be nice if;
A) The police blotter more accurately stated information like that.
B) We recieved something more in our emails than a simple statement that the report has been acknowledged.

I have heard the confidentiality argument but I'm afraid for many of us that really doesn't fly. In the real world if I file a police report accusing my neighbor of peeking in my windows, I get to find out what happens to it. I get a report back, I get to participate in questioning, perhaps a trial. I get to find out what happens to the man and no one says to me, "Oh we have to keep it a secret, we're not allowed to tell you whether he will go to jail or not."

I really believe that if we had more confirmation that something happens with the abuse reports, people will be more likely to use them.

I guess the only thing left to do is to ask the person you reported...

if they reply "hahahaha LL didn't do jack sh*t to me, and I'm going to continue to screw ya" .. then i guess nothing happened.

Yes, Doubledown. That is "community self-policing".

I think this means, theyve read your report and just hit the delete key. Ive filed a few of these things over the years but never saw my town listed in the police blotter, so I figured they looked at it, said "pfffft" and flushed it.

Do those who get banned make the Police Blotter?

Doesn't it seem a tad lax when you look at the Police Blotter? With all the griefing that has gone on in the past two weeks and not permanant one ban. Nothing ever seems to happen other than the auto replies.

Exactly. for the abuse system to be taken seriously not only does action have to be taken, it has to be _seen_ to be taken.
