So...How come there aren't any gyms in SL? Is exercise even in Second Life not important? Haha. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough? I did find a gym thing at the bottom of the Titanic and I've run into a few punching bags here and there. But sadly...that's all...

People already use SL as a real job. We don't need them thinking they can use it for real exercise too.

Actually, I have hooked up SL to my bicycle. I think another guy in SL has done this as well.
There are quite a few projects like this on tap, I believe. |

This is the coolest thing - when I used to hit the excersize bike I would put travel channel or something on the TV and imagine I was cycling along... but now you could cycle around SL - get excersize AND have actual changing surroundings. _____________________

I, for one, am highly un-helped by this thread |

I started a thread on the subject of exercising while computing and was lucky to get a response from someone who has actually done some real world projects coupling an exercise bike right into SL.
So far as SL oriented, non-real-world gyms and such, there are a number of problems. We lack good input systems. We aren't even able to read keys, for some reason I have never heard any explanation for. We can't read the mouse or a joystick. To do good athletics simulations you really need to have a good, flexible input system. Animations are really hard to make, so they are fairly rare and expensive. They aren't able to be nuanced, so if a group of people click on a "jumping jack" controller, everyone does the exact same jumping jack, you could go to work and the avatar would be doing jumping jacks in lockstep with the others. If we had good enough physics to make jiggling breasts, and other more realistic body motions, preferably under detailled control by the avatar's owner, there might be an opportunity for fem avs to do some enticing aerobics and such for the male avs to watch. _____________________

I don't get much exercise in SL except for raising my arm as I edit, and the occasional flying.
But that's okay, cause I rarely eat, either. coco _____________________
