It makes sense, right?

It's an official channel of communication, run by the Governator herself. Surely we shouldn't sully its good reputation by allowing *any resident* to post on it.

The forums really damage SL. They remind me why I'm glad I'm spending less time in SL.

I expect some people wished it was their terminals at ex-telehubs rather than the infonet ones.

I wish we still had the hubs, and allowed for p2p as a paid option. Less drama, less whining, and less complete upset of the virtual RE market.

But, but, but, but.... if we have Linden only content on the forums, what will happen to the picture of....

<oh darn, someone at the door, I hate when I get interrupted like that...> ;)

If I had terminals up and one didn't have to worry about copyrights and such they would be video terminals with parcels big enough for an audience; some would play Werid Al, some would play Wendy Carlos, and maybe one with progressive rock videos like, say, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and one would be swing jazz.

Nice mocking post, and flawed analogy. It would be more valid if you had used my forums instead, with the Lindens posting all their information there. Interestingly, the kind of stuff that is being disputed in these terminals could not be posted in these very forums anyway, as it would violate forum guidelines. Additionally, we have no ability to dispute or correct the information in InfoNet. If it wants to be presented as a private system, fine - but it is being represented as a public terminal of Linden information, and should be just that. There is zero reason why it could not be that - the whole fucking system is pointless anyway.

Am I the only person that went: "Oh cool! They added a new toy to my sim!"

With all due respect, stuff like this is bound to have a bump or six when it's first rolled out. Consider it in place of the chronic patch wars most major updates usually see.

I think LL should post all important information on SecondThoughts. It wouldn't mean they endorse it or anything, even though we'd all have to go there to read it. It'd be easier than having forums of their own to maintain. They wouldn't have to moderate at all, and they could just claim to be another user when people were flinging libelous excrement at each other.

Fine, let's use your forums. :)

The Lindens have posted information on your forums before, cris. Specifically during one of the DDoS attacks, I think a year and a half ago? They were attempting to communicate to their populace during an attack that brought down both the forums and the grid.

Anyways, they were posted in the general forum of your message board. Hardly an "official" channel of correspondance, and yet it was there, sandwiched between some threads started by Kris, Angel, and others.

How is this different from Infonet?

If you want to extend the analogy, then InfoHub should not be allowed to name names.

Okay, second stupid question, because I can't get in-world right now...

...I thought anyone could post on InfoNet? Granted, it has a limited editorial control thing, but it seems to be rarely enforced.

Furthermore, even if you couldn't... the precedent is set in yet ANOTHER resident creation, the Second Life Herald. Limited article scope, only certain people can post; heck, even the comments are moderated for up to 24 hours. Yet the Lindens have, in fact, used that "journal" as a source of information.

I think no matter how we slice this turkey, the precedent that the Lindens have no problems using resident-supplied means of official communication has been set, as early as a year ago.

IRC? Other forums? Mailing lists? Metaverse Messenger? SecondLife Herald? Terranova?

Sluniverse has been used at least once by Lindens to contact the userbase when the SL forums were down.

That doesn't extend to builds, does it? A sign is a build, a sim with camping chairs is a build,... In fact, isn't "ugly telehub land" one word?

Calling a build ugly is not an attack on a person. Let's all pretend builds aren't ugly, and award pretty builds with a cookie, a gold star, and hearty "Good job, boys and girls!".

I'm looking around at the motor city's news and communication channels. Ya think a car or two has been called ugly? Is General Motors demanding that all such publications be pulled from distribution on city property?

please.

For all your talk about being able to dump a ton of cash here as a serious business investment, are you ready for prime time or still playing in the sandbox?

In our town we have a restaurant reviewer that is anonymous. They are that way on purpose so no one knows or recognizes them when they come in to do an offical review. That way they get an honest impression of the service and quality. Good day or bad.

Anoymous reviews have their place as long as there are guidelines for constructive feedback. I doubt there are guidelines in this case, but it would be something to consider.

I bring this up to point out two things.

1) Such anonymous reviews do exist in the real world in real news paper publications. Got a complaint, you take it to the editor who assumes the responsibily. Same here. Take your complaints to the editors in charge of Infonet who must assume the responsibiliy.

2) We ALL live, breath and play virtually on LINDEN LAND. I have ALWAYS heard it raised in any unpopular situation, be it porn availiable, the teen grid ... copyright infringement...that Linden Labs are held responsible and what if someone sues? To claim, Linden Labs is endorsing this means Linden Labs endorses anything on their grid that is allowed to stand. Even the things we don't like including spinning "Impeach Bush" signs.

TOS violation? I'm not certain where it is a matter of opinion and presented as such. Bruised egos? Definately.

but but....this is Gov. Linden land! Don't make your tier payment and see how long your land stays "yours."

No one likes to be told their build sucks. I think during burning life, some friends of mine had their build graded as an F. It raised awarness of the event and traffic through their build couldn't have been higher after that and they were rated well for it too. Oh and the sun rose the next day. :D

I do have empathy for anyone listed like that, but at the same time, had it been the "best of list" I suspect we would be seeing similar threads complaining as to why so and so's build was not included..and why is LL sponsoring these player's builds and not mine!! It must be FIC!! It works both ways. Think not? Go talk to the folks at Bedazzle when images from SL:Unreal were put on the main pages of secondlife.com.

But I digress.

Now..how about going out to the Winter Festival before the Burning Life reviewer posts her Winter Festival grades on Snapzilla and influences who you go see the most? ;)
