I'm looking for a newbie section and couldn't find any, so I'm posting here. I need a little help. i.e. a mentor. I am completely lost as to what to do next and need a little guidance. Please help!

A refund of what?

Billing questions should be directed to billing@secondlife.com, I believe. Or call a toll free support number.

1-800-860-6990 (US and Canada)

Thanks for the wiki page, I really appreciate that. i bookmarked that and will read it. I guess my confusion is to what to do next. I created an avatar and am going from one place to the other, not sure what the purpose is. I will read through the wiki and see if I get answers to my questions.

Thanks.

So, is there a mentor program in this game?

SL is more of a place than a game. You pretty much have to figure out your own purpose. It is not directed. Think of it as a giant chat room with some 3D stuff thrown in.

Yes Mynx! There is exactly that... a warm welcome to SL and the SL Forums. :)

When you're inworld, go to HELP menu ---> LIVE HELP and say that you're looking for a Mentor. If there's any specifics you'd like to be taught, just say so! Mentors can also often be found around the current Welcome Areas in the regions of Ahern and Waterhead (you'll see lots of green dots on the map). There's also a forum for the SL Volunteer & Education programmes.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe this is not my cup of tea. I was just very curious though after hearing a lot about it.

Thank you and be well.

Probably, the first thing throwing you is that there is no 'point' to Second Life. There's no way to 'win'. When I first started up an account, I pretty much just stood there and scritched my head and wondered exactly what the hell I was supposed to do now. Well... there is no 'supposed', other than following the TOS agreement. Walk or fly around, talk to people, look at cool things people have built, take your time and get to know the place. Just be careful around Taco Rubio, he talks in binary and is therefore not to be trusted.

(eta)... and that's what I get for getting distracted while posting... well, take it easy, and if you're looking for a more structured MMO there's plenty. I hear good things about World of Warcraft, DDO looks like it might be cool if you like teaming with people, and I myself enjoy City of Heroes.

Thanks, I have done most of those. I am a gamer and I guess deep down I thought the 2 could be combined. I guess not. This is my last post... off to my MMORPGs. Have fun all and good luck everyone.

Um, that was swell.

Just to clarify, though, doesn't the process of signing up have a step that specifically asks you if you want to have a mentor or something equivalent?

I could have sworn I posted this already, but . . .

They should have a new players forum! How come there isn't one?

This thread is really sad...
a new player asking for help and most of the posts in this thread were rude and insulting..
I am thinking there needs to be more resmods and the more rules to the TOS , like don't be an ass, or something...
I am so glad that when I was new I didn't bother to look at the forums until i was already hooked, or I probably would have never stayed in SL.

Mynx, only a small fraction of people read and post in the forums, not all of em are jerks, I swear!

I think most of the folks coming off as being an ass are piqued by Mynx's immediate rejection of SL, without appearing to give it a chance. But, yeah, in general, it can be hard to get started with any online game. And I gotta go along with thinking that a New Member forum wouldn't be a bad idea, myself.

I've reported posts before, does no good. I'll admit, this forum topic was not the best greeting possible, infact, I don't see much good except the few that tried asking what on earth she needed help with, which I'll admit was vague. I think another example of "If you don't have anything nice or helpful to say, don't say it"
