Can anybody recommend a laptop that will reliably run SL?
I'm on the road a lot. I can always get a high-speed connection but my IBM Thinkpad just won't handle SL. What's a day of RL without a night of SL?
Thanks for any insight.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a GeForce 6800 Go card. Works great for SL
![]() The current generation version of my notebook is the Inspiron E1705. I still think this is the best choice for an SL/gaming laptop under $2000. _____________________

ram and graphics card
07-07-2006 18:00
If you can afford it, get a gig of ram, and the latest Nvidia card. If I was gonna get one tomorrow Id definately grab one with one of the 256mb cards they have out now. Ive got a 128mb go5600 currently, and that works ok, but I wish I had more oomph. And upgrading graphics cards in a laptop just isnt practical, if not impossible. ( Ive heard alienware notebooks have a swappable graphics card setup, but they are far from cheap and the reviews are mixed) The best advice is to follow the SL recommendations for machine specs, and surpass it if possible to be prepared for upgrades in the future.

The model of the IBM Thinkpad laptop is T40p. Heh I use a T40 as my main computer for SL. I'm guessing the strange FireGL card in the T40P is what would cause problem. _____________________
