In order to provide its users with a more seamless and immersive experience, Linden Lab should acquire the internet in its entirety and prioritize SL traffic so that we can all have less lag and no unexpected disconnections.

We all know that the Internet is for porn. If Linden Lab acquires the Internet, who will become the Porn Baron?

Before they can do that, you need to make a proposal. Dur!

I would support this if -- AND ONLY IF -- Linden Lab thought about what they were going to do with it. Just buying the Internet would be irresponsible if they didn't have hardfast, codified intents already in mind.

Hell, if thinking out what to do beforehand was required, there'd probably not be an internet like it is today. Mind you, I make no claims in support of either side of whether such would be a good or a bad thing. ![]() |

Hell, if thinking out what to do beforehand was required, there'd probably not be an internet like it is today. It goes on down a road of horrors! If the people setup ARPAnet hadn't been so focused on their stated jobs (worrying about such trivial matters as accomplishing daily goals and getting a paycheck!), they would have invented DRM decades ago and ensured that the Federal Government, NSA, Eschelon, CIA, MI6, and other authorities who watch out for our best interests could lock down any private wiki for such gross negligence as a verb tense and broken links. It makes me sick to think of the Utopia we could live in if The Black Chamber were still around and could execute people on sight for Google Bombs. When will people learn? _____________________

Setting aside that my previous post was in jest, I wasn't talking about ARPAnet, more like the dawn of "dot com".

Do you realize how irresponsible that was of DARPA! Those narow-minded eggheads set about a domino effect that let lose a torrent of horrors: iTunes, Wikis, Second Life, RSS, text messaging, and the list just goes on. This is a bit off topic, but at the precise time I read this thread, Jarod's post count was exactly 666. Creepy. ![]() |
