What's the best way to make $L? I've tried to buy them already, and it was really expensive. What do you do to make $L quickly?

Buy a printing press, and steal Philip Lindens secret linden printing plates, hidden in a box below Jeska's office in Ambleside.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

$25 US buys almost $L7000 on Lindex. I think that's pretty cheap. You can shop a long time on that. Land, though, land costs real money. And then you have to pay tier fees in real money. Ouch. Better to rent?

Easy--get a female alt and go into the escort business :)

Okay--seriously now, it depends on how many L$ you want to make and how quickly you need to make them. Second Life isn't really a place to get rich quickly, but it is certainly possible to make some money here. You may not become the next Anshe Chung, but you can probably cover your tier and membership cost.

The main ways people make money in SL are:

If you can afford it (and have not already done so), upgrade to a Premium (paid) membership. That will get you 1000L$ immediately, plus a stipend of 500L$ each week.

Make and sell something--clothing, furniture, animations, scripted items, vehicles, skins, houses, personal services, etc. This doesn't take much money to get started in, but it does take skills, time, and talent. Many economic niches in SL are already occupied, so you might want to look for something that no one else is providing.

Trade in land--Buy low; sell high, and hope to make a bit of profit above and beyond your tier fees. Not as easy as it looks. Because of the land tier fee system, it is easy to make L$ and loose US$ in land.

Get a job working for someone else in SL. If you aren't flaky and treat your SL job like a job, there are a lot of people who will treasure you. However, the wages are usually not so hot compared to RL wages. So don't do something you don't enjoy.

Organize and run events and/or clubs. A decent SL income can be had off of a combination of tips, dwell, and or Tringo or Casino type games. Don't look for the cash Developer's Incentive payments, though; they are almost completely gone.

There are other methods of making money here such as: referral fees for new premium members, LL payments for teaching classes, winning games and contests at clubs.

I teach two classes on making money and the SL economy at New Citizens Plaza in Kuula every Sunday:

Making Money in SL I: Basics (2pm)
Making Money in SL II: Land (3pm)

You are welcome to come--they are free. IM me in world for more information and a Landmark.

Good luck.

You aren't very specific here; like, how much and how quickly?

Buying a premium membership will provide you with L$500, an initial signing bonus, and land benefits. If you need a chunk of change now, you might want to reconsider visiting the Lindex again. I don't know how you arrived at the conclusion that lindens are really expensive, but relatively speaking, most people are of the opinion that the price of lindens is very low atm.

Well, I get $40 a month, minus 9.95, so thats only $30. I really don't have a job, so there ya go. I suppose I could sell items that I can get my hands on (copy) for a good price, but otherwise, nothing. I would like $L2,000 a week for working, if that's possable. I'm thinking of learning how to make veicles.

Imo, your expectations are not realistic.

And, what Lucifer said. Not really having a job and $40 per week does not suggest adulthood.

Agreed. Between my stipend and what I make at the M2, I make L$2,000 a week, but I work my a$$ off to do it.

I would strongly suggest that someone at LL review Rob's account, since, as several have previously mentioned, he most likely is under 18.

Depending on when I remember that I need to eat lunch (not now, still digesting breakfast), I may try to swing by there.

Like the thread starter, I'm curious about how to make $L (though not expecting or looking for "easy money";), without investing RL money (which I don't really lack, seeing as I go home with $20-50 each day, depending on traffic, as a pizza delivery person), but am averse to spending it without good cause. Holly is one such cause... and as anyone who knows DSMs can tell you, she can hoover your wallet quicker than you can say "what broke now?!". :D )

i just hired some DJs for an event opening. if you enjoy that kind of work, i know dj's start of around 1000 L$ an hour. you don't even need a server or anything. there are sl radios that will hook you up with everything you need. all you need is to be willing to host a show and play some music, and if you are good, sky's the limit.

To be fair I've known full time college students who play and write off SL from their monthly parent support $ and use their part time job to pay for food/rent/etc. =3
