The person to maybe ask is Torley. The first letter of the first name can be capped or lower cased...Torley has done that for quite a few people.

Our policy on this: For Second Life first names, as milady said (thanx!), I'm happy to do case substitutions. For example, I can change "bob" to "Bob". I can also do minor typos within reason and at our discretion. But, I can't change a first name to something radically different. So "bob" can't become "Frank". Submit your requests to torley@lindenlab.com and word them clearly please. Hope this helps clarify.

That's good, because a lower-cased letter at the beginning of a name really irks me. We learned that in kindergarten.

Pah !!! but Torgeson can become Linden. Essentially it's a database, of course they can change ANYTHING, its just case of running the appropriate script, (preferably while grid is offline) and i don't mean LSL scripts either. The reason why they dont widely offer such a service is simply that they dont want to waste valuable time and resources with the inundation of requests it would bring. Of course if the service was chargeable in US$ then they might offer it.

The reason why they dont widely offer such a service is simply that they dont want to waste valuable time and resources with the inundation of requests it would bring. Well... yes. Can you imagine how many hours they would waste doing it, if they did not automate it somehow? (And it would be possible to automate it, I think, in real-time. Batching, though, would probably be bad... since two people could feasibly try to change to the same name in the same batch -- meaning error trapping and all that other zany developer fun.) And we all know that griefing right now is a pain to police. Imagine what it would be like if people no longer had to create and use alts to switch their names. From: someone Of course if the service was chargeable in US$ then they might offer it. Money makes the world go 'round. In a similar situation, EverQuest II allows people to transfer characters from one server to another -- but they charge so much for the service that people usually are not willing to pay. So SOE manages to discourage people from pestering them for character transfers, even while looking like they are being helpful. (A nice, tricky move.) And occasionally, they make a little money on the side.
