Anyone ever email SL snapshots tol Photobucket.com or other such image store places?
I just tried one from SL to photobucket and now I have a bunch of teeny gif files with what seem to be little bits of a dialog box or something like that in my phoobucket folder.
First time I emailed anything other than [email]pics@slpics.com[/email] so I don't know if this works for anyone else.
Anyone send emailSL snapshots to flickr or imageshack?

I didn't know previously that you could do that with Photobucket! I haven't seen the instructions, where's the page to learn more? What you describe about all the GIF bits sounds like actual images used in the postcard--when you mail a postcard, it gets formatted in a certain way with a blue bevelled outline, with little names like "blue_corner_br.gif". If you email a postcard to yourself and check the attachments, you'll see. Snapzilla just snags the picture for posting, but I don't think these other sites can automatically filter it out.

You description of the pieces of the postcard is right on target, Torley. http://photobucket.com/tutorials/email/email.html Above is the url with the instructions. The extra files kinda ruin the usefulness of this. I guess snapzilla is set to discard these or else SL is set to not send them when the emal destination is [email]pics@slpics.com[/email] This would be real nice for some things - the default snapshot filesize when you send the snapshot to snapzilla is too big to display properly in the forums. Photobucket will let you resize the picture. Plus you can edit your albums on Photobucket. I bet the other image storing services have this ability, I dont know what made me think about this.

Use imageshack.us -- they'll resize the image when you upload it, and give you a TON of different links for it, including ready to go VBulletin code as well as direct HTML links.
Register once and you can manage all photos you upload to them.

What I really want is a system that will let me take a screen shot, crop it, resize and convert to the desired filetype, and store it on the web, and put the image tagged url in the windows copy buffer, all automatically,
Being able to email files to an image host like Photobucket means you can right click them in Windows Explorer and use the Send To Email Recipient option to get them uploaded, which might be nice at times depending on what you are up to.
I sure wish we had an option to make the files that go to snapzilla be 512 across instead of 640. The 640 disrupts the forum formatting here, so I end up copying the image from snapzilla, cropping and resizing in Corel Photopaint, uploading to photobucket.
It's not a snapshot by that time, it is a project.
Hmm, I should play with the screen capture utility I have and see what I can find on the web. Maybe there is something that can do something more like what I want.

I've taken to hi-rez snapshots in SL and then manually uploading them to Flickr. The automated postcard step is nice, but you lose a lot in quality.

Hmm, I should play with the screen capture utility I have and see what I can find on the web. Maybe there is something that can do something more like what I want. Suezanne, I have added an easy way to use a reduced sized Snapzilla image (512w, height adjusted) for use in the forums or a blog. Through some creative URL rewriting, I got around the forum's aversion to displaying dynamic images inline (if the image URL did not end in jpg or gif, it was displaying a link instead). Below is an example - the image is actually being resized on the fly - the original remains in Snapzilla at 640w. Next to each picture on the picture list, there is now an icon. This has the link to the reduced size version. Right click on it and select Copy Shortcut (in IE) or the equivalent command in other browsers. You can then just paste the URL in between the IMG tags here to use it inline. You want to make sure that you copy it to the clipboard by using a right click. You can also click on it and a Javascript prompt will come up with the link specified for you.

What Satch says rings true, I'm still hoping for better JPG quality! You're welcome. I'm going to be adding file uploads to Snapzilla in the next month or so since Belaya Statosky begged (ok threatened) me, which should help with the resolution issue and give some more flexibility. I am also working on adapting some of the technology I am using for another Snapzilla-related project to create a small desktop application that could handle automatically converting and uploading the BMP files generated by SL. Stay tuned

And wow... I remember snapzing my first piccie. ^_^ The end of February marks one year of Snapzilla - 53,000 pictures later, and it all started with this picture (and sadly, my house is still not done):

I remember getting a gracious tour of it because of you. And chatting with Laquita, ahhh she's such a sweetheart! I think my two initial comments about your house were: - WOWZA that's a lot of cars!
- That's a BIG ballroom!

Stay tuned Heya Cris! What are you using to convert / resize / compress? Consider trying out ImageMagick. Its free and can be called from the command line. I switched from using PHP's GD library for resizing / compressing JPEGs to ImageMagick and found the results to be significantly better without increasing the file size. I'm wondering if you might see similar results by switching from Microsoft's libraries. Run from Belaya. RUN! Regards, -Flip

Yes, I use ImageMagick a lot the time. It gives excellent results, even turning big pics into JPEGs, and saves loads of space.
The other one I use is a Mac utility called Photo Drop, which you can use to create droplets to do image manipulation tasks, resize, crop, convert and so on. ImageMagick gives slightly better results, but it's such an easy process using droplets: drag your BMPs onto the conversion droplet, then drag the resulting JPEGs onto the Flickr droplet. Give them titles and descriptions, click upload and bang.
