Another question if someone can give me an anwser. I tried to search the faq and user guide but did not see an answer.

When I 'talk" in world my avatar does a typing motion. I did not notice this when I first started. Did I do something to turn this on?, and if so can it be turned off. It is just irritating to me and would like to get rid of the typing motion.

Thank You

One method is to put two slashes in front of whatever you are typing. The first one stops the typing motion and the second one hides the first one. Example:

//Hello!

will come out as:

Hello!

Also, some standing poses are a higher priority than the typing animation and prevent it from displaying. You would need an Animation Override script and a high priority stand animation. However, realize that most stands designed for AO's are lower priority to allow the typing animation.

Just a thought here ...

Most of us are pretty accustomed to the typing motion. It tells us that you are in the process of saying something and that we may want to wait for you to finish. While it is possible to disable this motion by wearing an override with high-priority stands, it will make some of your converstations a bit awkward.

For example, if I am speaking with somebody - particularly somebody who types very slowly - and I do not see their typing motion, I really have no idea if they are going to say something. It can make for uncomfortable pauses in the converstation that would not normally occur in real life where you are speaking continuously.

For this reason, I generally use, and recommend, putting standing animations in your AO that do not override the typing motion. As an alternative, you may want to turn your system sounds down so that the key typing sounds are not so loud.

I have to agree.......when I first started I didn't even know what the hell that clacking sound was and thought it odd. Can I suggest you have a wait and see attitude, you will get used to it.

As Persephone said......if I KNOW you are typing, the pause in between comunications isn't awkward and I won't TP or walk away in the middle of a sentence, thus appearing rude :D

heh, I felt the same way at first, "how do I turn this stupid anim off??" but it's true, it is a way to know that someone is speaking to you and keeps you from walking away when they are in the middle of a sentance. The / works in different situations, though, it's handy. One slash would have your name before what you say, like /me in irc. But for everyday conversation, the typing animation is a helpful communication tool.

I also find the typing sounds to be very annoying - most of the time. However, there are times when they are very useful.

I tend to spend a good deal of time in Photoshop with my avatar sitting idle in my store. It is not uncommon for somebody to have a question, and seeing me there, may just begin speaking to me unaware that I am not watching my viewer. If it were not for that obnoxious clackety clack sound, I would not know to alt-tab back to Second Life.

The slashes are a very good idea when attending a live show, however. I went to a show the other night with almost 60 people - most of whom were being courteous and using the slashes to negate the typing sound while people were performing.
