Okay, folks --today I bought a brand spanking new 2ghz PowerPC G5 with 2gigs of RAM for my birthday.

I had absolutely no idea how good this SL world is until today!!

I gad been limping along on an 800mhz PowerPCG4 with 256mb of RAM until now, and have no clue how I have ever been able to get anything done!

It's like seeing Neualtenburg with great big new shiney eyes!! If you peeps thought I was busy before --ya ain't seen nuffin' yet.

But enough about that. Here's a snapshot of Tai, Flyingroc and Me drunk off our asses at the Oktoberfest carousel!

Congratz!!! That is awesome Kendra. I "borrowed" my dual G5 from work for a few weeks during the game dev contest, and life has been sad since I had to give it back. Hope to buy myself a nice machine like yours by the end of the year.

Happy Birthday, Kendra!

I have a 2 GHz G5 with 2 GB of RAM too! Isn't it great? I don't have one of those amazing carousels though. :)

Did you get a Mighty Mouse, too? It works perfectly (and naturally) with SL.

Yes I have the Mighty Mouse! But I can't stop singing "Here I come to save the day!" everytime I rightclick, so I'm sticking with my wacom pen.

You'll see when 1.7 comes out next week... there was a "stress test" a few days ago... 107 avatars in a sim being run on old hardware... people were crying when they saw 3,000 active objects and still getting 10-15 fps on outdated hardware, and over 30 fps on brand new machines... except perhaps for some slowness on attaching/detaching things or changing clothes, you could simply not believe the utter speed of SL!

Now imagine Oktoberfest with 100 people and no lag... no lag at all. The mind boggles and refuses to accept it :)

Double congratulations, Kendra -- on both your anniversary and the new machine!

- Gwyn (sadly with her own PowerBook being repaired - video card meltdown [really!] - and using a mid-level PC as a replacement)

Happy Birthday Kendra and congratulations on your new arrival!

I have a Powerbook G4 with 1 GB RAM and a 2ghz Athlon PC with 1 GB RAM and a nice ATI video card. They seem to handle SL fine, but I really do want a dual G5 Power Mac.

My dilemma is wondering if I should wait for the new Mactel's or get a G5 now and save the cost of upgrading my software for the new processor. Did you struggle with this at all?

I did struggle quite a bit on that one, but I got such a good deal on this current machine, I couldn't pass it up.

Happy birthday Kendra. Didnt know there were so many mac users in nburg! I have a 867mhz powerbook, and a G5 imac. The iMac I must guiltily confess I probably bought so I could experience SL better, no matter what my original rationalization was.
