Sky Honey has been busy developing a really exciting new mapping system for us (and for other interested sim owners, of course). Here is a page with the beta results.

To explain, the map in the upper left is directly from the SL WebMap API. Then, to its right, a scanner which she has written generates the map in which the land owned by each separate owner is colored differently. Next, below that, edge detection generates a map with only the ownership boundaries. Finally, that boundary map is overlaid on the SL WebMap, in the lower left.
The chart at the right displays the parcel owners (directly, it displays the groups. We are setting it up now to display the actual owners), along with the total m2 size of each ownership.
Double-clicking on either of the two SL WebMaps displays the coordinates of that spot. Hopefully capture of those coordinates can provide even easier access to lot information.
An important point here is that the LSL functions available to us at this time enable the retrieval of only the parcel owner, not the actual boundaries of any given parcel. As you can see, adjacent lots owned by one person show as a single block.
We're seeing the basic engine here... the use possibilities are quite extraordinary. First, we are very anxious that better tools are available for the prospective land-buyer that will enable them to identify available lots. This will be a major addition to that. Also, this scanner system can provide a confirmation that what is on your deed is actually what you own.
I think that once we live with this incredible new system, all kinds of use ideas will surface.

This is very nice, but I have one suggestion. The list needs more colors. At the moment, there aren't enough. For example, Diderot's NBurg Land Facilitators, Super Happy Land Group, and Ouroborus Cyberneticians Guild have the same color. You could cross reference with the addressed map on the web site to find which is which, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

Agreed, Claude. I'm just using some standard Windows colors and reusing the list. I'll have a nicer complete set soon.

Dianne made me a tasteful and complete set of colors, and Sudane gave me a list of avatar names to use instead of the group names. Hopefully the map will be more useful now.

In case you're wondering who "Land Title Error" is, the parcel is in Rudeen's name to which it reverted when Yogeswari's group dissolved for insufficient members (probably). She remains a citizen in good standing; hopefully the group problem will get sorted out soon.
