1. The election is 12 days away. What are the deadlines for faction formation, etc? Where are the faction platforms so new citizens can decide whether to join an existing faction or start a new one?
2. With the current election window, those of us without weekend access in world will be unable to vote. What shall we do?

Absentee ballots?

Is there a provision for absentee ballots? Even the Iraqi elections had those.

In the last election, the period was voting was a full week. I think that in the course of RA discussion on this matter, that period was intended. You're right... two days is far too short to engage in the arm-pulling needed to get everyone to vote. I think the intention was that the election should *start* on the 14th. We'll have to review the transcripts.
Also, yes, there was a provision at the last election for absentee voting, since some people cannot get access to broadband during this time. For example, Flyingroc Chung is in a somewhat remote location in the Phillippines, without broadband access, thru that period. I have urged him to stay in touch with the forum and to expect to vote with an absentee ballot.
With such a small number of residents, 100% turnout is very important. I'm happy to say we achieved that at the last election, but not without some considerable arm-pulling.

From: Claude Desmoulins 1. The election is 12 days away. What are the deadlines for faction formation, etc? Where are the faction platforms so new citizens can decide whether to join an existing faction or start a new one? It looks like the elections will be between 15-19 of Jan or 12-19 of Jan. Thus one should have factions with enough members (three) before that date. A list of current and past factions can be found at the link below: http://www.neualtenburg.org/government/factions/I've also added a "Factions" section to the side menu (it's growing ever longer), as it's a question that comes up often. From: someone 2. With the current election window, those of us without weekend access in world will be unable to vote. What shall we do? If one is unable to get in world to have a PIN assigned by the voting booth, I can send one by email (absentee voting). A web browser will be the only tool required for one to vote. ~Ulrika~

~Ulrika~ My opinion is that we should start on the 12th. We need as many days as we can to reach everyone and urge them to vote. Ulrika, perhaps you can provide a day-by-day count on how many have voted, beginning on perhaps Sunday, so we can tell how we're doing and how urgently we need to renew the "get-out-the-vote" appeal. *Just* a count on how many have voted!

I'll plan for the 12 Jan then! I'll provide a running tally of votes in the fashion of "14/28 (50 %)". ~Ulrika~

I updated the voting dates on the web page. I've also handed out the first absentee PIN to a citizen who will be unable to log into SL during the election. Depending on whether or not they have web access, they might need to vote early. Does anyone have a problem with an absentee vote coming in before tomorrow at midnight?
