Hello, I am just throwing this situation out for discussion as I would like to know what if anything anyone thinks of it. I have a problem in that I am kind of claustrophobic in RL (also being OCD-ish doesn't help ). So living or working in the small houses is difficult for me. I recently made the decision to move all my stuff to Neualtenburg so I could live and work there 24/7 and be more a part of the community and less of a visitor. So I put up my building area, and had the best day and a half of creating stuff that I have had for weeks! But I forgot about the prohibition on sky platforms. This means that for me, it's basically impossible to make a good building area or at least one that I can work in comfortably. This is not a complaint, I fully understand and support the reasoning behind these kind of rules or guidelines. What I am after is a solution. So I am wondering if anyone else had this problem (of a suitable and suitably sized place to build things), and what if anything was their solution for it. Some possible questions: Do you do a lot of your building in Neualtenburg itself or offsite? Do you build a lot of larger things or just the small stuff and scripting? What about making a public sandbox within Nburg for residents? Is that even feasible? I'm thinking that even with expansion, the day that we will have enough resources to put up an entire sim as a sandbox is really far, far, in the future. Should we think about defining "work spaces" within the community now? Or am I alone in needing this?

Dianne, I noticed your factory is gone. Was it too confining also? One thing I've been wondering... Is it possible to have underground rooms, like a big basement? That may still be claustrophobic for you, but at least private and out of sight.

You're free to use my underwater workshop in Altenburg --there's also currently a huge area underneath the Marktplatz.

From: Kendra Bancroft well the beauty of this device is you can set it up and take it down easily. If this is allowed I would like some clarification on length of time they're allowed, minimum altitude etc. I respect people's right to privacy and freedom to work, but I don't really relish the idea of seeing a bunch of floating boxes over Neualtenburg. Edit: grammar.

Edit: grammar. I'm not sure this has been clearly defined. It's a good subject for a bill. At any rate, as a rule of thumb I'd say any "skyboxes" should only appear when the person using it is actually "online" Just my 2 cents.

Well I didn't realise it when I posted but I now think I was probably hinting at using the room under the platz for public building space, but I am not so sure that is a good solution now that it's percolated up to the top of my mind. I have an excellent building space and a huge house in Moraine which is where I build, so I dont *need* a building space. It just seems funny to build at my house (all by myself ) in an empty sim, when I could build "in the community"sort of speak. In fact, I can of course, it's just that I am just too used to the open spaces and making large junky things. I would really like to know if others build exclusively in Nburg or somewhere else though.

Depends what I'm building. Mostly I build Neualtenburg stuff in my tippytippy top secret underwater workshop in the Schwankanal.

From: Tai Tuppakaka Dianne, I noticed your factory is gone. Was it too confining also? One thing I've been wondering... Is it possible to have underground rooms, like a big basement? That may still be claustrophobic for you, but at least private and out of sight. My factory is gone because I just never liked the design of it, and yes... too small! It was suposed to be derivative of a le Corbusier church (the Notre Dame one), but I never liked it much. Ditto the Gropius inspired factory that was there before it and the geodesic ball before that. I think that to keep Neualtenburg attractive and liveable we *do* need to keep construction clutter inside the buildings for the most part. Sadly, I think I have decided that I personally just dont *like* being inside when I build. I am sure I can find some other interesting building to put there or perhaps trade for valley land and just plant some trees. (I really liked P240 if anyone is into giving that up ) I am currently talking to Sudane and Rudeen about available land and perhaps liquidating part of my current lot in the NorthWest corner so if I keep it that area will likely just be a prim farm for me. I have heard that a neighbor might be interested in purchasing some of it?

Well, personally, I like both ideas — the floating platform (you cen float up to, say, 2000 m or so, and there wouldn't be any "visual cluttering"...) as well as a "community sandbox". However, the last one will have to wait until we get a second sim With the current citizen base, and the L$ rising again at the LindeX, I believe that we can seriously start to think about that 2nd sim in January or so...

I like the floating platform ideas in an attempt to save the marketplatz from lag. In a second sim it might be a neat idea to have a community workshop down in the valley. It would force Neualtenburgers and Second Simmers to associate with each other.

I think a general guideline of "you may have temporary floating platforms for work use, provided they are over your own land or designated public space and are deleted when you are offline" would be good. Perhaps further designate that such platforms must be high enough up that they will not be in common sight.
Now somebody just needs to submit a bill?

To whom do I submit, anyway? I think technically anyone can submit a bill to Pendari, but it is "recommended" that you get the support of an RA member to submit the bill for you. I think the reason for that recommendation is so that you have someone actually going to bat for you during the RA Meetings... So find your favorite RA member (hint: Satchmo Prototype) and have them pass your bill on for you.
