I'm working out of town this week and next. I won't have much time to get on SL. I did make a sweater with a snowman and Merry Christmas written in German. I sent a copy to Ulrika to check out. It might be suitable to sell.

Thanks! I totally forgot that you sent something. :) I'll make sure we put it in the vendor.

I'm trying to hammer out the contest rules for a decoration competition this upcoming Sunday. It's currently being reviewed by the Guild. :) I'll announce that later when everything is properly figured out :)

Neualtenburg's Winter Holiday Decoration Contest
12-09-2004 06:05
Contest beginning: Thursday, 5 PM PST
Contest ending: Sunday, 5 PM PST

Rules:
1. The Neualtenburg City is proud to present its first Winter Holiday Decoration Contest and invite all creative people to present their original, amazing work in building/creating Christmas creations. Starting time will be Thursday, 12/09/2004, 5 PM PST, and all participants are able to work on Neualtenburger Marktplatz if they wish.
2. Participants just need to officially state that they're willing to compete by either be present at the Thursday event, or by IMing Gwyneth Llewelyn with their name and the contest class under which they'll compete (alternatively, by sending email to <gwyneth.llewelyn@secondlife.game-host.org>;). Anyone can participate without attending the launching event.
3. Valid entries must be rezzed in (or otherwise "active";) at the Marktplatz by Sunday, 12/12/2004, 5 PM PST. Any participant can rez them in or activate them before that time and physical attendance at the event is not necessary, except if the creation needs somehow a "user activation" which is not obvious to demonstrate (ex. special voice commands or so). In this case, the jury will evaluate the creation just on ground of aesthetical design.
4. All creations shall have a definitive "winter sun solstice festival" that fits in a snow sim. Neualtenburg is a recreation of a German medieval town, set high into snowy mountains. Overly religious items connected to a particular faith are to be discouraged (but not strictly forbidden).
5. Contest categories are:
a) Objects & textures (scripted or not), standalone - make sure you're able to prove that all are your original work. Objects shall have full permissions for the jury to inspect creation on each item. It's allowed to use textures or scripts from other people, if you can prove that they have given you authorization to use them for the purposes of this contest.
b) Objects & textures (scripted or not), integrated into Neualtenburg's settings (ie. facade decorations or city lights decorations). The same rules apply to the category above, but this time, the decorations must fit in into the city's architecture and overall look. This will probably mean that you will need to do your work inside Neualtenburg for most of the time.
c) Avatars & clothes - you need to present someone wearing your avatar/clothes at the start of the event on Sunday (can be a friend, doing modelling for you). Attachments are allowed, to a maximum of 31prims (total).
6. For categories a) and c), contestants may use any kind of object that has been previously created. Class b) can be a completely new item just for the purpose of competing, or an existing object that is specifically adapted to fit in the City of Neualtenburg.
7. Categories a) and b) should limit themselves to a 10 x 10 x 10 m3 volume and a maximum of 31 prims.
8. The jury will analyse all entries starting Sunday, 12/12/2004, 5 PM PST, and a panel of juries, nominated by the Neualtenburger Guilde, will select winners for each category. These will be announced on Tuesday, at an upcoming event.
9. The criteria for selecting a winner in each category will be aesthetics and originality - each will be weighted separately, to reach a final decision. In case of ties, the Neualtenburger Guildemeisters' vote will decide.
10. Prizes for each category are:
a) L$ 2000
b) L$ 3000
c) L$ 2000

Join us in the Neualtenburger Marktplatz in Anzere (180,180).

If someone wants to collaborate with me, and do the building/texturing, I'll do the scripting.

That is, assuming we can do group submissions?

Sounds great Gwyneth!! I'll be there tonight! :)

PS: This thread makes me wish we had an event calendar of our own both on the forums and in world. Just so they don't get lost in the shuffle. Just a thought! :)

That's an excellent idea, Pendari!! Yes, sooner or later, Die Gilde will need that anyway, to give their approval in a more straightforward way - and "approved events" would be easy to browse afterwards. We should put that in the "wish list" on the scripter's volunteer thread...

Hmm, I have a tool to do these things Web-wise, but it's hard to master, yet easy to use... however, there are lots of excellent open-source scripts to do web calendars... we have to ask Ulrika what type of system and access to it she has for "Ulrika's Heim".

That's an excellent idea. Actually, I was somewhat disappointed about the number of participants :( Perhaps we need to do some more promotion...

Ah well. Things have to begin slowly :)

Sorry Roberta! It was only like tuesday that the dates were thought of. We are still trying to think of ways to help members stay more informed of events. So hopefully it won't be as much of an issue in the future.

If I"m not mistaken, you can still enter this contest! It does not end till this Sunday. :)

Yes and Yes! :D

Oh, and one suggestion. Could you by chance edit the description post so that it has a landmark included? I think that would be helpful for those who may read it from the forums and not in world. :)

Contest results!
12-13-2004 02:24
Attendance: 12 people for over an hour, 15 total (I think that the extra 3 were present for about half an one hour)

Voting was done by the contestants themselves, we had 6 participants for the three categories. Besides the first prize, and since even the others have done a very good job, they got "2nd place prizes" as well :) (I was feeling generous!)

Category A - standalone objects/structures

Tripper Tapioca: Model T Coke van (5 votes), L$ 2000
xtrahyper Bauer: Elfbot (1 vote), L$200

Category B - objects/structures specifically for Neualtenburg

DragonChiq Therian: Elf Factory (5 votes), L$ 3000
Pendari Lorentz: Miniature Snowman in glass w/snow (1 vote), L$ 300

Category C - avatars/clothes

TxBornVaNow Pennyfeather: Christmas Tartan (5 votes), L$ 2000
Roberta Dalek: Barbie in Christmas costume (1 vote), L$ 200

Besides those prizes, the Neualtenburger Guild has decided to award a special prize for "most promising newcomer to the City" to xtrahyper Bauer, for L$ 2500, and the decision was made to keep DragonChiq's wonderful Elf Factory as a "permanent feature" on display in the City.

This final picture is a group shot. Roberta Dalek can be seen in her Barbie in Christmas costume just right of center in the green hat with striped stockings.

I had to do another post as only 5 pictures are allowed per post.

Actually, I'm working on that chit vendor thing, it could be integrated into it, if you want.

By the way, sorry I've been slow to get to work, everyone. I'm going to start working on this thing when I get home today.

No rush. Whenever you have time is fine. I don't want being in the group to be a job. :D

Right, Lance, no rushes :) Thanks for your hard work, but no stress, or one day you'll start a thread going like this: "Why slavery should be abolished in Neualtenburg"... "Dear friends, for the past few weeks I have been the victim of the slavemasters in Neualtenburg, they have driven me to ultimate despair after toiling away for day after day, with no rewards, and ever-demanding challenges..."

Hey, we also step in-world just to meet and have FUN! :) :) I propose that Die Gilde should enforce some events for hard-working members to spend some time together without being forced to be creatively working. Wearing the Chicken Hat (Christmas Version) is not mandatory, but recommended :)
