This is NOT a disscussion thread. This thread is to post that you intend on starting a party, telling us the name of the party , and hopefully giving us an idea of what your party stands for. Perhaps also telling us how you think your party will help the people, city, and project.

Whatever a party is named or stands for is only open to disscussion amongst those people who belong to that particular party. If you find you don't agree with a party's agenda or name....then let them know by voting and voting only when the time comes!

Consider this the official registration of the faction to be called the "United Conservative Front". The name is subject to change as membership forms and ideas are developed further.

This party will be for conservatives and will support a wide range of conservative issues. I view this as more of a moderate conservative group that will stand up for conservative ideals but is open minded too.

Some issues we will support (subject to change as the group forms it’s opinions):

1. Lower taxes
2. Smaller government involvement in our daily lives
3. Flat tax system
4. Making the city a no-fly zone
5. Freedom of the Meisters to set whatever wage structure they wish for Apprentices and Journeymen.
6. Free Market System
7. Freedom of speech
8. Separation of RL government and SL government
9. Separation of Church and state

I know there are a bunch more but will have to put some thought into it. This is what I thought of on the top of my head. I will update this post as they come to mind, or as you suggest them.

Please let me know if you have interest in being a part of this faction

Moderate Peoples Party MPP
11-20-2004 19:24
Pendai and I are herby formally registering The Moderate Peoples Party (MPP).

Our basic platform is that the community and its people are first and foremost and should be considered above all else when it comes to Neualtenburg and Second Life.

Some of the more specific interests we represent are as follows:

1. The protection of individuals rights.

2. Freedom of speech and expression for all people.

3. The Equal representation of all peoples in government.

4. Making sure that any possible laws will benefit the community and its people.

5. Making sure that all are viewed as equals under the law, and that no individual or group is above the law.

6. We believe that education of the people about the project should be a high priority.

7. Though we realize our community will reflect real world politics from time to time we believe that only politics relating to our world of Second Life should be represented in the community at large.

8. We believe that by protecting the community as a whole that the individual will be protected and will have a place to grow within our community

Social Democratic Faction (SDF)
11-21-2004 01:49
The Second Life Social Democratic Faction (SDF) has been created to unite and empower artisans of SL in their creative and political endeavors. Social democrats are reformists who are in favor of change through gradual reforms to the capitalist system. We uphold the concepts of equality and individual freedom and support moral capitalism. This group is dedicated to create change through focused political action.

The SDF differs from other in-world political affiliation groups in that it is a true political party. We seek to create, guide, and participate in SL governments through the creation of written works, the organization of public rallies, and the submission of candidates for office.

In general we support:
  1. Private enterprise, but regulated to protect the interests of workers, consumers, and small enterprise. We believe in ethical capitalism and seek to remove parasitic wealth extraction from the economy through the creation of artisan cooperatives and the use of taxation and regulation to discourage unethical practices.
  2. Environmental protection. We seek to protect the beauty of the sims, maintain open space, and enhance the quality of builds in Second Life through the use of covenants and themes.
  3. Antixenophobic and nonfundamentalist legislations (pro-choice, antiracist, antihomophobic). We believe that all avatars are equal and have a right to be heard.
  4. A policy supporting multilateralism and compromise between factions.

Are you tired of rich mall owners taking money for your hard work? Join the SDF. Would you like to be part of a cooperative where basic infrastructure is provided and collaboration is encouraged? Join the SDF. Are you interested in working with a group of ideological, ethical artisans who seek not just justice for themselves but justice for all? Join the SDF! If you believe in the democratic process and the inalienable rights of all avatars, then join the SDF!

The SDF allows open enrollment. Use "Find" in Second Life to search for "Social Democratic Faction" and join the group.

(Feel free to edit this Kendra. I just grabbed it from the SDF web page.)

Costume Party
11-21-2004 09:53
I hereby formally wish to register The Costume Party as a recognized faction within the city of Neualtenberg.

The Costume Party has one, and only one plank in our platform. The Costume Party stands for those that feel that parody, mischief making, and unadulterated debauchery are legitimate forms of political discourse, and are essential to the well functioning of any pluralistic society.

We currently have five factions in the city:
  1. Moderate Peoples Party (MPP)
  2. Social Democratic Faction (SDF)
  3. Second Project Party (SPP)
  4. Costume Party (CP)
  5. United Conservative Front (UCF) (possibly defunct)

Very important:
  1. Citizens have until Sunday 9 January to add a faction.
  2. Factions have until Sunday 9 January to edit their platforms.
  3. Factions have until Friday 14 January to make cool logos for their faction. (Make it square at least 320x320. See attached example.)
  4. Factions have until Friday 14 January to create an SL group with at least four members willing to serve in the representative assembly (RA) to be eligible for the election.

Once the final descriptions are done, I'll need a volunteer to copy the text to a note card in SL that can be distributed to voters. In the note card we should include:
  1. Descriptions of the factions
  2. Instructions for voting (the text below)
  3. The date the voting takes place
  4. The URL: http://www.ulrikasheim.org/vote

If a new member is interested in voting but is not interested in joining a faction, here is what you tell them:
  1. We will be holding elections on Saturday the 15th of January 2005.
  2. We vote for factions (or parties) not for people.
  3. Read about these factions and pick the one that suits you best. (Give them the note card.)
  4. Go to the voting booth in the city square and click on it. It will give you a password.
  5. On Saturday go to http://www.ulrikasheim.org/vote, enter your password, and cast your vote.
  6. There will be complete instructions online.

If a new member is interested in voting and wants to join a faction and possibly hold a seat on the RA, here is what you tell them:
  1. We will be holding elections on Saturday the 15th of January 2005.
  2. We vote for factions (or parties) not for people.
  3. Read about these factions (give them the note card) and pick the one that suits you best.
  4. Once you have decided, contact the SL group officer for that faction and ask to join.
  5. Talk to members of the faction. Find out who wants to hold seats on the RA and let them know if you do too.
  6. Go to the voting booth in the city square and click on it. It will give you a password.
  7. On Saturday go to http://www.ulrikasheim.org/vote, enter your password, and cast your vote.
  8. There will be two votes faction members have to make:
    1. The first vote ranks individual members of a faction to determine who gets RA seats.
    2. The second vote ranks factions to determine how many seats each faction gets.

  9. There will be complete instructions there the day of voting.

I need all of you to take the initiative to get people in world informed and excited about the vote. I'll most likely be sequestered working on the voting machine for the rest of the week, so I'll be away. (I hope to demo it this weekend.) :D

POSSIBLY DEFUNCT??? rofl... What ever gave you that idea? pfft... maybe when you stopped conversing, refused to answer any of my questions, then kicked me out of the group w/o even talking to me or to my knowledge anyone else gave you that idea. PFFT!!!

I promised a friend I was going to just walk away quietly which I have done so far and will continue to do. Clarification was needed since you referred to my group.

Actually Billy, the hope is that someone else will step in and take a place as leader of a party like this. I am certain that is why Ulrika worded the description as such (after talking with her in the past on this issue)... That is all. Was not meant to reflect on you other than a great idea for a party you brought to the project. :)

I've finished the basic authentication code for the voting machine and have figured out how to make it secure in SL and RL. I now just have to write up the instructions, the individual ranking code, and the faction ranking code. It should be done in a couple of days. Because of the size of this code (and my poor coding abilities :p), I'll likely be out of world for a few days so I can focus. (Whenever I log in I'm always discovered and end up spending hours in IMs and discussions.) :) It's entirely up to you all to mobilize your factions.

There were no new factions or edits to the faction descriptions so I'm keeping them as is. I still require logos for your factions. Late Friday night, right before the polls open, I'll log in and take the member list from each of your faction groups. No one else will be able to be added after that. Factions without enough members will be dropped.

For those who are interested in helping in the city and read the forums, I could use help getting word out on the vote while I'm busy with the voting page.

How will we vote?
01-10-2005 08:40
Just a question that popped my mind...

How will we vote? :) Will we have a "voting machine", or will we simply send our votes by IM to "somewhere"? In that case, we should have a comitee to validate the vote count? Any thoughts on this?

Here's how it will work.
  1. Visit the voting booth in the city center. (Not up yet.)
  2. Make your faction or party your active group, so the booth can detect it.
  3. Click on the booth and it will give you a voting PIN and send the data to my server.
  4. Go to my server at: http://www.ulrikasheim.org/vote. (Login page is done -- check it out.)
  5. Log in with your SL name and voting PIN.
  6. Rank factions members.
  7. Rank factions.
  8. A persistent URL with a receipt of votes will be provided for each voter.
For verification voters could submit their receipts to a third party. If you would like, votes could be forwarded to a second site but that site would have to write its own code to parse the votes.

Doesn't this imply that you need to be in a party/faction to vote?

Unfortunately, now that I read it, it does imply that. :)

Let me clarify, you do not need to be in a faction to vote.

If you are not in a faction, you will have one vote. This vote will be a ranking of factions in the order of your support for their views and platforms. These scores will be used to allocate seats in the Representative Assembly (RA) for the factions.

If you are in a faction, you will have two votes. The vote mentioned above and a vote which ranks of members in your own faction to determine who will occupy the seats earned in the RA.

If you're interested in holding a seat in the RA, you must be a faction member.

Right now the SDF is quite low on members to serve in the RA, because so many of us are in other branches of the government and are thus ineligible. If you're a member of LLL or some other groovy leftist organization, we could certainly use you. More broadly, if anyone has dreamed of owning a piece of a pristine sim with a telehub, the best way to get on board is to join any of our factions and get a seat. :D

I contacted Satchmo but I don't think he's done any work on his faction. He hadn't set up a group last time I looked.

I should have set up a radical faction but didn't get round to it :(

That's not a problem about Satchmo's group. We'll be holding this election again in two months or so depending on how things are going. As the group and interest grows, there will be opportunity for more parties.

Did you say radical faction? Look no further than the SDF! ;)

I hereby formally register The Citizen's Party as a recognized faction within the city of Neualtenburg. Our platform is simple: To always keep the best interests of the citizens of Neualtenburg in our minds.

Some of our initial plans include giving event bonuses to those that hold events within N'burg, the lifting of restrictions against outside businesses, and the start of a Central Bank, with a centralized currency for use within the city.
