It's strange, when I first joined Second Life, I always thought there would be a few "obvious" themes around...
- a cyberpunk city. Yes, there is Nexus Prime covering Gibson/Bonifacio, but it's simply a "very nice build". Almost nobody goes ever there. In a whole year, there was just one event there I attended (a beta-test for Portal Wars), and that's just because I suggested the idea of doing the beta-test there

Most people never saw the city - and it's just outside the Welcome Area!
- a medieval city. Well, there was none available when I logged in last year

Now we have Neualtenburg

- fantastic-medieval cities, mostly for roleplaying - these are fairly well represented, although, to be honest, they aren't too much appealing...
- a Japanese medieval city. Tons of attempts have been made, there are even "Japanese sims" done by the Lindens, and later by Anshe Chung. None are a "city" like Neualtenburg.
- an Ancient Egyptian city - of course, giving place to a Stargate-style "conspiracy theory". Watch the slaves build the pyramids while UFOs cruise the skies

Yes, there are a few scattered Egyptian-style buildings around, even somebody who started doing that on a sim-scale in a private island, but I guess it's sadly not around anymore
- a jungle "lost city". Yes, we have Numbakulla

Yay for that

- Disneyland. Hmm. Ok, I *was* expecting it!! Things like Spitoonie come into that area, and so did the SL Theme Park (which doesn't exist anymore, I think)
- an English Victorian city. Sadly, Olde London, part of the Neverland project, was dismantled. It even had this interesting ideas of getting clues to roam across the city in search of the next clue. I must say I liked Neverland overall, but Olde London held my heart

- an 18th century themed city. Well, you know - the puritans in the 19th century were prudes

The 18th century was much more
fun and definitely more fitting for a "mature sim". You know, wild orgies in palaces; the
Hell-Fire Club; listening to lovely baroque music while frolicking around; and, of course, the utterly wonderful dresses, complete with wigs, of the period. Also, the century of lights and reason; says a lot to the Americans (of course), but also to my own country, Portugal, as the capital, Lisbon, was rebuilt in the 18th century after an earthquake, and has a "modern" city layout planned in 1755. Unlike most European capitals, who have medieval nucleii and are mostly late 19th-century builds (with scattered older monuments here and there), Lisbon's downtown was created as a planned, modern "Imperial Capital" (well, we
had an empire back then...) in the 18th century. I actually still have a plan to recreate parts of it over the summer - projects, projects, projects, and not enough time (or L$!) to do them

- and finally, last but not least, Imperial Rome (or at least the latter days of the Republic). That is something I can't understand why it was never been done! It's an almost perfect setting for a political/mature sim - treason at the Senate followed by orgies during the night, planned cities, organization, all sorts of events - theater, chariot races, gladiator arenas. I mean, it
begs to be recreated in SL

I have to see that "Athena" sim... now I'm curious!
