Hi all
Please forgive the noobness
I am just starting out with editing land, and have been playing with the basics.
I need to apply a texture to a vertical piece of land to create an cilff. I have textures, but just cant figure out how to apply to a section of land.
This is probably very simple but i just have a mental block now...
The second thing i would like to do is create a waterfall. so a push in the right direction would be a help
Thanks in advance Bends

There's no way to retexture just one section of land. If you're an island owner or estate manager, you can retexture a whole island, but not any particular part. The ground textures repeat across the entire region, every 12 meters.
If you want your cliff to look different than it does, throw a prim in front of it, and texture that as you see fit.
As for waterfalls, you've got a basic example in your library. Take a look at it.

Basically you need to make prims for the water, then apply a water texture of some kind, then use a script to animated the texture so the water flows. Particle mist simulates the water mist, sound clips can loop for the water sound.
There are lots of ways to proceed, but as Chosen says, some basic supplies are in our libraries.

Check out the large garden centers as well. Many of them sell waterfall arrangements. There are sculpted waterfalls and also sculpts that can extend the apparent geography of your land to create something like a cliff. You can take a snapshot of your land where you want to make the changes to create a texture base for your extensions.

As for waterfalls, you've got a basic example in your library. Take a look at it. Um, actually, there are four terrain texture slots available for any sim, and they are applied according to altitude, and you can change those textures and set those altitudes in World- Region/Estate- Ground Textures, as long as you have the necessary permissions on your sim. No, you can't make a granite cliff surrounded by grassland that is at the same elevation. For that you would have to use prims. However, neither are you restricted to one texture per sim, no matter what the elevation, as some of these posts would seem to imply. And no, you can't do it on a per-parcel basis. The terrain textures are sim-wide.

The only other solution is that there is a product on xstreet-sl that will make a sculpty prim or set of sculpty prims that exactly matches a section of terrain. So you could make a "ground blanket" with that product, and texture it as you choose. Still very tricky to make it work the way you are asking for, and may have issues at a distance when Level of Detail makes the terrain and sculpted prims change slightly as you get farther away.
