I'm Adding a Mesh -> Sculptie mesh, and accepting the default sphere. In object mode it looks like the tutorial I'm following. Just a sphere with a pink line around it.

I go into Edit Mode and the sphere turns pink but there's another sphere around it. So when I play with the vertex, face or edge buttons the indicators are applied to this external sphere. This extra sphere isn't in the tutorial.

I don't know if I changed a setting by mistake. How can I get rid of that extra sphere?

Not sure if you need this info: Blender version 2.49a OSX 10.5 py2.5 intel and I have the Domino Marama scripts from about 2 weeks ago installed.

Thank you for help.

Sounds like you have a subsurf modifier. When creating the sphere you can choose between multires or subsurf for the modelling type. If you use multires I suspect that'll match the tutorial.

Thank you! In the Sculpt Mesh Options, 'Use Subsurf' was highlighted so I undid that. Now I'm where I want to be. I appreciate the help.
