Hello. I'm new to building in SL and have a question involving a problem using LightWave 9.0 and sculpty's. Here's what's happening. I create a simple object, (a matress) and in layout I apply the sculpt shader plugin for SL. Select the surface baking camera and set the object and the UV map in the given options. Render, and the image I end up with creates a sculpty that looks rather odd. It's edges look like a tangeld mess. Also the sculpty image seems to only contain red and blue.. Ill post the image which might help.
Damn. The file attachment option isn't working... Maybe later then.

i had the same problem in lw9 so i started using the shader 'surface baker' along with the sculpt shader plugin. using the default camera. utilities menu plugins > aditional "turn sculpt shader on" and open sufrace editor add shader "surface baker" select it and choose edit >properties choose the UV map, and set resolution to 64, check bake shaders then render F9 it will render the camera image and the sculpt map

Thanks for the tip, but i've searched for the surface baker shader and couldn't find it within the program. Maybe it was offered with older versions of lightwave? Because i haven't been able to find it so far. But ill have another look.

to get the shader press F5 go to the shaders tab and press add shader drop down it should be in that list as "surface baker" then select it in the list and choose edit dropdown properties to open its window

Ah I found it. Ok, I've managed to set it up with the same object and I'm rendering it as a 24bit targa with the surface baker along with the sculpty shader plugin. But I'm still getting some weird results.. The image I end up with is black. Although the rendered image in LightWave appears to be hue's of blue and purple. Yeah, every time I just get a black image...

Is anyone else able to upload pictures here? I'm still not able to for some reason.. Also nothing seems to be fixing this problem i'm having. I've gone through this step by step using the explanation in the sl wiki located here, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Patchouli_Woollahra/Lightwave_Sculptie_Rendering. And I keep getting the same results no matter what I change.

i dont have this problem maybe the object is too large? try scaling it down small i had a shoe being cut off one end of sculpty with black so i shrank it and it rendered better
also is your UV map correct? and all polys flipped the right way?

Well, I read that the object created could not be any larger then 1 meter on any given axis. So I used a bounding box. And the polys are all facing outward. I'm also aware you can't add or delete any vertices when modeling, so I've checked that as well. I have a feeling there's some weird thing I have to do get this to work that I won't be able to figure out on my own. Maybe do a rain dance or leave food crumbs under my original lightwave manual.. Wish I could figure this out.
Actually here's an idea. Do you have an object and scene file I could look at so I could compare your settings to mine? That might help.

Hello Luden don“t know if you fixed your problem... sounds to me as an corupt UVMap ....but try this Download WINGS3D and the sculptiePlugIn (it is free). Also there are some Sampleobjets, Export one as LWO and open it in LW3D.. .deform it(size, stretch bend taper and so on) but dont add or reduce vertices or something else Then save it and import it in WINGS and render a SculptieMap in Wings. Ok.. that is only an workaround, but the SculptieMapsExporter in Wings workes fine

Thank you Sus. So far I can render the image using surface baker under the camera options. But the older one under the surface editor only renders a grey or black image. Thing is with the newer one the map doesn't seem correct, it seems to be only showing red and blue hue's. Also I don't see how the uvmap could be corrupt. I've tried a few simple objects each with their own uvmap. I'm getting the same results with each one, (rendered seperatly.) Wish I could post an image here of it to show you. Every time I get a message saying the forums are having difficulty..
I've looked at Wngs3d but the down load links for the sculpty shader seem to be broken. Atleast the ones I found.

just red and blue sounds like your model is not centered at 0,0,0 in modeler
