As of yesterday, July 17 2003, Americana became the second group to purchase their whole sim.

Not only do I think the members of Americana did a FANTASTIC job, I would also like to thank all of the residents of Second Life who helped by supporting our events, and purchasing our goods. 100% of the money made from sales and events went towards the purchase.

We invite everyone to stop by and view the progress as we continue to expand into the rest of the sim, and most of all to see our version of Fenway Park, called Fanway. This is probably one of the better detailed builds in Second Life at the moment.

.This part is for the Lindens …………..

Since before Launch, during Launch and after Launch, we have seen numerous articles and press releases that mention Americana or a build with it. As the spokesperson and official liaison with the Lindens for our group, we are officially requesting the name of our sim be changed from Blue, to Americana. The name Americana signifies who we are and what we are accomplishing. To tell a group of people to “come by Blue and see the Washington Monument” does not even come close to “visit Americana……”

We understand that you may have resistance to changing a sim name, it’s already on maps, Land Marks and Note Cards. However, all we are asking is you give our request due consideration

Very nice work shaping up in this sim!

I was doing some demos and spent a bunch of time there, riding the tour truck (great idea!) and looking at the ballpark.

Phillip, wouldn't the demos have been just a little better if they were being held in the sim Americana ??

But still, thank you so very much for the kind words.

Woohoo Americana lives !!!

I am proud to be part of this wonderful project. Even as a Brit I have been made very welcome and my ideas fully embraced.

Thank you to all of the Americana Group

Dear Lindens. Please please......... (add a few more) rename Blue to Americana. The sim is promoted and it would make it so much easier for newbies to find (having seen the advertising/demo/review). Thank you in advance.

PS. Glad you enjoyed your ride Philip. The Tour Coach/bus/truck (call it what you wish) is a work in progress. Keep watching for improvements ;)

But honestly Philip, doesn't "Come visit beautiful Fanway Park in scenic AMERICANA" sound better than "Come visit beautiful Fanway Park in blue ? :D

Speaking of the ballpark, the construction is starting to slowly leaving Phase I (the exterior) and slowly entering Phase II (the interior/concourse area). Expect more to come at Fanway soon :)

Heh... I agree on the changing of the sim name, but I'm stil amused by the "blue/north; grey/south; civil war theme"

With regards to officially naming the land, for the 1.1 release we're working on some self-governance tools which would allow groups to name parcels of land (neighborhoods, communities, etc).

But sim names won't be changeable, at least in the near future. We're of the mindset that with Second Life being such a dynamic environment ("wait, wasn't a building here yesterday," "where did that lake come from";), certain aspects of the world need to remain constant in order to give residents, especially new residents, some stability for navigation, etc.

great work Americana

[edited 7/21/03 to include notes on why sim level renaming isn't a near-term option]

Hunter, not to sound like a PITA, but would you please define "parcel".

Thanks for your time,,,,

Sure - i use parcel to describe a plot of land, any region which is owned by a person. Right now, you might have a site which is comprised of multiple parcels or one big parcel.

Soon a resident will be able to combine multiple contiguous parcels which they own and there are some other designs around group ownership, etc which will be posted in the coming weeks.

Thank you Hunter for your answer. I just wanted to make sure that a "parcel" could go so far as to include an entire sim.

TK -

technically it could - but it won't change the underlying name of the simulator. For example, in the Americana example, Blue could be a single neighborhood called "Americana" but Blue would still display as the simulator name. However, Americana would be displayed in various search results, leaderboards, etc.

I edited my post above to be more clear.

Then I guess we are back to our original plea.....

PLEASE rename the sim blue to Americana. As mentioned in previous posts in this thread, it makes better sense to market a sim called Americana than blue. This can only be a win-win for all of us. Second Lifers will be happy and your Marketing folks will be happy.

Please.....pretty please

*gets on knees*.........

paaaaa-leeeeeeeeeze ???????

Would it be possible to get the Land Parcel / Group Land whatever name to show up along side the sim name so I could know when I was in a certain community?

While a simulator name has meaning for system and geography reasons, the region name for a community has just as much meaning for social reasons.

That's a perfect Idea.

As an Americana Representative, I would love for Blue to be renamed to fit the name of our group. However it doesn't seem as if the Lindens are willing to make this change since reading Hunter's remarks, so I say Ama'a idea is also a fine one.
The sim name could read at the bottom "Americana - Blue"
To label the Neighborhood. Since we own the entire sim, it would always display Americana.
While a complete name change would be better and in the long run, less confusing to newbies and long term players alike, if the Lindens don't want to execute that change, we should definately consider this other option.

While I would like the change, i understand their reasoning, can we really garuntee that for the lifetime of SL that we can keep Americana going? Nothing lasts forever, while we will do our best to make Americana great and longlasting we can not garuntee that it will never falter. So allowing us to change the sim name will probably not happen. If they let us, then they have to let all the themed sims, and likely themed sims will come and go and they will constantly be changing sim names.

I love the neighborhood idea, and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR 1.1!!!! Supposedly it will have everything i've been begging for.....

*begs some more* GROUP LAND, GROUP LAND, GROUP LAND!!!

I don't worry about Americana faltering...maybe some of the members, but not the group. There's an appeal there that will always draw people in and be able to pass on the group to someone else.
Now individuals, who aren't as dedicated will eventually fall by the wasteside, but not the group. I totally see your point though, it's a good reason as to why the Linden's wouldn't change it.
That's why the neighborhood idea is a good one.

I agree that americana will likely not fail, but if you read the second part of my post, they would have to allow all themed sims to change their sim names, and the odds are that some of these will fail... so they won't let us change sim names..
