The University of Second Life is open for teaching!
Any and all instructors who wish to teach regular classes covering a wide range of topics (PG Only) are welcome to teach their classes at the University of Second Life in the Phobos Sim.
The Phobos simulator is home to both the University of Second Life and The Phobos Project for Newbies. The University has extensive land allotment (approximately one half a sim, across several sim boundaries with additional land) resulting in a lag free environment for teaching.
The University of Second Life has extensive floor space for Exhibits, our current University Library (with a moderately large collection of free scripts, objects, and examples), Private Work Areas, Land Editing Area, and our Lecture Hall complete with a huge Notecard XyText reader display. All floors are separated by at least 20m to prevent cross-talk. Most areas are in a covered, glass building for privacy during classes. The University also has lots of room for expansion and growth!
Instructor Stipends: ============== All instructors who join the University Instructors group will be eligible for a L$250 stipend for 30min classes and L$500 stipend for 60min classes held on University grounds. [Note: there is a limited pool of money each week for the additional funds, approximately L$4000 per week]

Due to the recent Linden Event Support changes (i.e. no Linden support for resident classes unless they involve some sort of challenging competition), USL is proud to provide L$250 stipend per 30min classes and L$500 stipend per 60min class for all classes taught at the University.
=============== The University is open for all types of classes, both SL-related (Scripting, Texturing, Building) and non-SL related classes (i.e. Language, Poetry, Security, etc).
The University is a privately run University for the betterment and pursuit of learning inside of SL. Dwell earned by the University is used to fund University activities such as Teacher stipends, expansion, and maintenance.
=============== (Limited pool, approximately L$4000 pool available each week for stipends, depending on donations, dwell payments, etc.)

From: someone Originally posted by Hank Ramos Sadly, The University is now closed due to lack of interest. I wouldn't exactly call it a lack of interest. :-/ I'd actually like to teach a couple of classes. The problem is that I'm still trying to master some things, myself. And, if I started teaching "classes," it wouldn't be long before half the people in SL hated me. (I used to teach programming classes at a trade school. I had approx 50% drop rate because my class was "too hard".)

I'm very sorry that the university is closing down Hank, it was a brilliant idea. Just a shame that it's not so easy to get people to use it

Hank you may have already thought of this - but have you considered bring the mountain to the people.
Get the group of teacher's together who will teach on such and such date/time, post it on the event calendar, and then have people sign up in advance or show up the day of the "teach-in."
That way you're publicizing when the teaching event will be, and over time people will begin to learn how best to use the University.
