For those of you who are wondering what happened to the Open Source Library and where the books are,
(1) Due to time and scripting problems, the books are behind schedule a bit. I won't release a sub-standard product even if it is open source. Though keep an eye out for it 'cause it's in its finishing stages. Basically, it'll work like this... The book's author doesn't need to know any LSL at all. She simply fills a few notecards with a few simple keywords that tell the script how to navigate through the book and what to do on each page. Most of this is pre-loaded from a notecard on rez. The user navigates with text messages of the type: "/page 2" and "/read". These strings may also be sent via linked messages, allowing a wide range of applications.
(2) The Open Source has been incorporated as one of several projects going on at the Gassy Cat Workshop in Slate. I'm looking for creative minds interested in working in small teams on projects. Basically, the idea is that customers with great ideas will pay us to provide the know-how in realizing their dreams - the work is split up between experts in each area - and in exchange, Gassy Cat employees will divide the money accordingly.
I'm very much dedicated to keeping as many things open source as possible, but I also believe in keeping the decision to do so that the responsibility and privilage of the inspired. Our customers will have the option of leaving their project open to all players for free from our workshop - and as an incentive, will receive their work at a sizeable discount.
Anyone interested in being a part of the Gassy Cat Workshop, we're always looking for more creative people with experience in:
Scripting
Designing Avatars
Clothing
Physics
