Uuummm....yes...I am one of the mathematically challenged ones. I have been building some housing and sell a few every now. I don't really do it make money but because I enjoy the creativity of it. Plus, I like to change my personal houses often and do different themes. If I don't have my builder's grid, I am lost :-) I am totally clueless what will fit on standard sized lots when people ask me if it will fit. I was hoping some of you Math Experts out there would take pity and help me out.

What I like to know is...what is the largest size of house (length X width) that would fit on the following sizes of land.

512
1024
2048
4096
8192

Thank you all!

*Most* will be cut as follows:

512 16 x 32
1024 32 x 32

larger than that it totally depends on how the land was parceled. A 2048 could be either an exact square (making it a 32 x 64) or it could be any odd configuration depending on who cut the land originally. Mainland sims are more likely to have odd configurations as parcels get sold over time.

Thank you for the info! Yep, I know mainland is all oddly configured especially when ppl buy/sell/join land after their initial purchase. I was merely looking for measurements for what would of been "normal squared plots" ...looks like I can use what you kindly provided and figure it out from here. Again, Thanks a bunch!

If you imagine a sim in SL as composed of a grid of 4 x 4 squares you'll be able to predict parcel footprints by using multiples of 4. The smallest parcel you can make is 4 x 4 (16 sqm) and the largest is 256 x 256 (a whole sim). This is also handy when terraforming - easier to work with grid than against it.

Make a measure stick to measure with for quick reference.
Stretch a cube to 4m and colour blue. shift-copy to end of stick, colour red. (better, use a texture), repeat for size/s wanted. Link. Name and take.

Land sizes are made up of of 16sqm blocks.

So each block size is 4m x 4m x 4m x 4m.

512sqm--- 16mx32m--- 4x8
1024sqm--- 32m x 32m--- 8x8
1536sqm--- 32m x 48m--- 8x12
2048sqm--- 32m x 64m--- 8x16
2560sqm--- 40m x 64m--- 10x16
3072sqm--- 48mx 64m--- 12x16
3584sqm--- 56m x 64m--- 14x16
4096sqm--- 64m x 64m--- 16x16

Taking the above sizes in metres it is in theory the largest you could build a house for those plot sizes.

I would however strongly advise against trying to build right upto the plots boundaries/borders as this will/can result in a number of problems.

For example, a house would normally have windows and this requires the use of transparency, if your neighbour has trees' placed close to the border there is a good chance those trees will at certain angles appear in the room you are camming.
