I couldn't find any other place to put this. Does anyone know where I can get an AO that closes the hand around the hilt of a blade?

it's not the AO, it's the animation itself... if it's uploaded with the hands closed setting in place, the hand will close, I believe there is even an internal animation for this as well

Unfortunately, SL doesn't allow fine control over hand position any more. No matter what the animation says, the SL engine and client randomly uses one of five hand positions, and there is NO way that I know of to control which one gets used.
*sighs*
I can't recall when they broke that, but it's been quite a while now. Over a year, as I recall.

I found out about it when I tried making some rings as jewelry - and found that there was no way to accurately predict or control the hand pose. A fit that worked perfectly for the hand in the "fingers splayed" position looked terrible when the hand curled into something of a fist... I eventually gave up on making rings at all.

now when you say randomly, do you mean that you can't tell by the currently playing animation, or that's it being actually randomly assinged by sl at either upload or play?
