I have a problem with a cottage that I have built in Hartwick. Once I finished it, I tried to link it. I was getting fairly regular messages that prims right next to each other were too far, but I linked in smaller batches and then tried to link together. At one stage I had it in two pieces, one about 52 prims and the other about 34.
When I clicked on a prim I was sure I had linked, it was on its own, so I shift clicked the next piece, also on its own and discovered that the larger piece had unlinked itself. I relinked it, went to the smaller piece...and it had unlinked itself. I tried for a long time to link it, gave up and decided to try again another day.
Today is that other day and EXACTLY the same thing has happened to me. I am at a loss to know how to link the thing. It just falls to pieces when my back is turned.
Those who know me will tell you linking is not my forte, and I would be the first to admit that. But this isn't something I have experienced in SL before...is anyone having the same problem? Can anyone suggest workarounds - cos I have tried the prims in all different orders, in smaller bunches...still get the same problem.
Perhaps I can market it as the haunted house of SL...ghostly hands unlink it as you work....
Thanks Cali

Thanks - and a workaround

Thanks for that Mystic, at least I know there are two of us lol.
I put a call in to Live Help and Nicole Linden suggested it might be the location rather than the building. I took a copy and moved it to Natoma, and it linked with no link problem. I had a whole other problem, that it wouldn't let me deselect it, but the linking went fine.
So the workaround is to move the building to another sim and link it there. Simple! Cali

I found since 1.6, what I have do to is link a few pieces, then link those peices together, etc..etc..and link closest linked to next closest linked, etc..
A pain, but it will go together!

Caliandris, this happened to me and it was driving me insane. Then it just stopped.
I started to do this: when linking objects made of several prims to other objects, after linking and before de-selecting the object, I would check the general tab to see what it said. If it said "1 object 32 prims," I knew it was ok. If it said "32 objects 32 prims," I knew there was a problem. So without deselecting, I went ahead and tried the link over, and it always worked on the second try.

I have been having the same problem with my building. An SL debugger came out a few months ago to investigate, and wasn't able to help. It won't stay linked.
Now, under 1.6, I can't link ANYTHING. I'm ready to sell my land and give up ... SL support hasn't answered either of my emails about it.

Yeah I get that. Often. And even more annoying, when you create copies of the bugged prims they retain the same bugs. It's one of the totally legitimate uses and advantages of having a prim copier to save you hours and hours of work recreating your own stuff
