Is there a way to export my actual shape out f SL into maya? I know we can get the default avs but I am looking for how I could get the shape tweaks on the av in. If I can not get it out of SL any suggestions on how to match up the default av in maya?

Great thank you I got those is there a way to get my own shape dimensions out of SL though? I looked at the different shapes they had done but they are either small or very large would I just adjust points on the mesh in maya or is there a more accurate way to match it up?

There is no built-in method to do that. However, there are tools out there who are able to capture and export 3D geometry and that might be the best way of doing what you want to do.

I have no personal experience with these tools though. The tool I've read about was originally designed to capture and "3D print" your WoW character and it evolved into a general purpose 3D geometry dump tool. Can’t remember the name, but some googling should take you there.

I actually had written a reply to this thread, explaining how to use the tool Leban's talking about. But I decided not to submit it. While your motivation, Sparkle, is in all probability perfectly honorable, it's far too likely that others reading would end up using it to steal content. I didn't want to make it any easier for them to figure it out than it already is.

Most people wouldn't go out of their way to take a bag of money right out of a banker's hand, but if he happened to drop one on the street in front of them, a great many would simply take it. There's no way to secure content, of course, but that doesn't mean we should make it convenient to steal.

That said, the answer to your question is just as Leban outlined. There are no direct tools in SL to do what you want, but there are certainly methods of extracting the desired data from your video buffer. Anything that can be displayed on-screen can be captured, anything at all. I'd love to tell you how to do it, but as I said, I don't want to make things any easier for those whose motivations would be less honorable than yours. I hope you understand.

I was looking around for the same capacity and I saw that Animeeple http://www.animeeple.com advertised that it can read the XML data dump from Advanced > Character > Character Tests > Appearance To XML
and adjust the shape of the avatar used as an animation proxy and the capability to export 3D data.

However, they have specifically gimped the SL export capability. Why? Interesting question...

Note that Linden Labs asked us to prevent the export of Second Life geometry from Animeeple. You can export the animation data from a Second Life avatar, but not the meshes.

I have been out of the loop for a while so I would be interested in hearing if anyone in the community has info on the data in "new archetype.xml". It would be nice to associate values to the mesh shapes linked above, or Dom's avatar .blend file.

Very interesting, Pygora. All I can say in response is LL does boneheaded things sometimes, as we all know. Still, it's nice to know the numerical data is available for export. Sooner or later, I'm sure someone will put it to its proper use, and make it available to the rest of us. Heck, I'd do it as a slider-configurable Maya morph if I had the time. But sadly, I don't. It would be a bigger project than I can tackle at the moment.
