So, I've been trying to follow some tutorials I've found on the forums, and one tutorial in particular I've had some issues with. I wasn't able to download any of the files listed in the tutorial, as they all are corrupt when I attempt to open them, so I've had to kind of fake my way into getting where I am now. So, here's my problem. I've taken a cylinder that I downloaded from PK Pounceworks (I believe this is the source?) and followed from there. Pinched the middle of the cylinder to 0.0 to make it appear as 2 parts. Bend tool. 2 rings. Embellished on it slightly to make it work for what I needed, and then export to .bmp. In Wings it looks great. Here's a screenshot of it from Wings. http://img29.imageshack.us/i/notpinched.jpg/I go into Second Life. Hit the upload button, click in the lossless format, and the preview looks like this: http://img29.imageshack.us/i/pinched.jpg/Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Your image links result in 404 errors for me. So I must guess.
Does stretching the object rezzed in-world in any dimensions get it closer to what it looked like in Wings?

The preview always treats the sculptmap as a sculpty of type "sphere", so in your case it is assuming wrong as you upload a sculpty of type "cylinder": - Despite this wrong assumption and the consequently wrong treatment of the cylinder ends in the preview (The unexpected spikes in the above image), you can just upload the sculptmap. From what i see in your picture, everything looks fine in the preview. - After uploading, apply the map to your sculpty and if it is your first uploaded sculpty, then be patient for a while. Often a freshly made sculpty first looks heavily distorted and takes up to 30 seconds until suddenly all distortions go away and eventually show your expected shape (of course only, if your sculptmap is correct) - By now you see the deformation on your sculpty as you already saw it on the previewer. You still have to set the sculpt type to "cylinder" (just below the sculptmap shown in the editor tab) - And after you set the correct sculpty type, the deformation disappears. - For completeness: please be aware, that your sculpty will most probably a.) not look exactly like what you see in your sculpty editor b.) suffer from heavy LOD distortions (moving away from the object makes it look distorted) have fun, Gaia

From: Gaia Clary The preview always treats the sculptmap as a sculpty of type "sphere" Maybe that should be reported as a bug then. Always treating it as a plane type would be far more useful.
