Is there a handy way of selecting prims that are entirely covered by another prim? Say for example a prim with partial alpha and another underneath it, or a wearable with multiple different states that are alternately invisible. Dragging a box over the object does not work on things you are wearing. But in the case of a wearable, like hair, it is MUCH easier to tweak it when it's worn. Up until the last update or so (I'm on v1.22.4 RC viewer dated 12/16/0 I had used the technique of focusing my camera on a point a few meters away from what I was editing and zooming the camera *through* the overlying prims for selecting prims inside of prims. But after the last update, this no longer works. Nor am I able to use the same technique for selecting wearables hidden completely inside my avatar anymore. halp!

1.22 has a rewritten picking system and it's still not quite right yet. What you describe is the main problem. It often helps to get into edit mode first (ctrl-3) and then click on the item you want to work on, but even that isn't 100% for everyone yet.

The main problem is I can't reach the prims I want to work on because they are covered completely by either fully invisible prims (in the case of something with multiple hidden overlapping states) or hidden behind prims that are partially alpha textured.

Yep, that one too. With the 1.22 setup, it seems to be a lot easier to work with something treated with an alpha'd texture than it is to grab something inside a prim made clear using llSetAlpha. In either case, the ctrl-alt-T workaround will force the outer prim to render so the picker can "see" it properly, but grabbing the inside bit can still be tricky since the camera still has the goofiness that has persisted for a while. The 1.25 server update, if it ever sees the light of day, should help some with the camera part at least :/

On the advanced menu there is an option for Rendering > Hide selected. Activate it, then use "edit linked parts". You can easily hide the encasing prim(s) and then select just the fully-encased prim.
