Transportation system? (for entertainment use)

First, i have to sorry about my bad English, En is not my major language~~

OK, here's my idea:
to build a transportation system which is for entertaiment.

we all have teleport ability here in SL. we can hanging around this world on feet to enjoy the amazing stuffs here, or fly to move faster, and teleport for free. traffic problem doesn;t exist in SL. in fact, we don;t need any transportation system~~

But what came up to my mind is: "that's too boring to fly to anywhere". teleport is fast; walkng is fun, but flying is god damn boring!! you can't see the details on the ground, and you can't move fast as teleport does, either~

So why don't we build a transportation system in the air which is "JUST FOR FUN"?! take my original idea for example: Building a open bar that floats in the air, it moves from stations to stations in the SL, each stations offer unique games, and are built in different styles. The bar itself can be an entertainment, too. People land their self by a high speed rocket ejection seat!! I think that would be "lots of fun" to fly in the sky~ how do you guys think about that?

i am currently learning scripting and moduling. plz tell me the cons and pros about my idea, thanx for your help~~

(BTW, if possible, plz reply in easier English, i'll be appreciated about that)

It sounds like what you are proposing is a floating building. One that moves around. There are several possible limitations.

#1: If this building is a single linked object then it cannot be any larger than 32 meters across at its widest point.

#2: If also made into a physical object (if you want implement it as a vehicle) then it also cannot have more than 31 prims in it, including avatars that try to sit on it. (avatars that sit on it that bring it over the limit may not cause it to lose status as a vehicle but don't trust that will always happen)

#3: If your bar flies over someone's land (private) then your bar will cost against their prim limit unless it is a vehicle. (not sure how strict a definition is applied here. I'm assuming actual vehicle status has been set but SL may only be looking at if the object has players sitting on it)

Those are the negative points, the cons that you have to watch out for.

There are positive aspects to slowly flying around sightseeing with people. We've done it in balloon vehicles. (Lindens used to do this regularly and Cubey Terra has done this on occasion too). That means your idea has merit to it but you should probably try to inject something unique into it or it's just another balloon ride.

I have seen a canon that can shoot you like a bullet very fast and very far. I have also seen catapult that can do the same thing. Both were a lot of fun.

Yes, I think there is a market for a party vehicle. I believe it is totally possible to do. The primary problem you will bump up against, or rather your clientele, is that if you move sideways they will fall off, or slam against the handrails. There are a number of solutions to this.

What you might consider is something that could only exist in LSL and not in real life, which is a floating bar. The people who "join" it dont actually stand on anything! They just float in the air, and the bar guides them around. They are free to move around relative to the bar, to talk to people and stuff, but the bar will keep them aligned vertically, and take care that they dont stray too far.

This would have a number of advantages because it is very easy to make an attachment (eg a Champagne glass) that you give to all the guests that will make them follow the bar, and by taking away any flooring noone will notice any minor desynchronisations. Since everyone is in the same boat, haha, when the bar changes direction or whatever the players will not notice any jerking relative to each other.

A floating bar would be great :D

I've almost completed my inter-sim tour balloon, and have been giving tours now for about a week.

If you're looking for a party ride, check out my AG Cruiser. :D

It's currently available in Gray, and will soon be offered through vendors in other locations. It seats six on luxurious upholstered seats, and has a very smooth ride!

Glass-bottomed or hot tub versions can be made by special request (or as soon as I get around to finishing them, at the vendors).

P.S. If anyone has bought one prior to 1.2 and is having trouble with it, I have an updated script and will upgrade your vehicle for free.

Regarding pilotless, what are people's thoughts on things like that?

I could enable my tour balloon to go on by itself, giving tours around SL automatically. But, I've hesitated to do that as I think most people would frown upon something that moves around in auto-mode over their land, and ocassionally breaking down in their yard.

I say go for it. Do the best you can to prevent breakdowns and people hopefully will be understanding if they do happen.

A Lo-Jack system has been suggested recently and I've had it in mind to install a simple mechanism in my own vehicle for some time now. Something that will notify me if it gets lost or stuck.

Another thing you can do is an auto-die script that will delete the object after a certain amount of time has passed. Have the scripts do checks periodically to see if the balloon might have stalled and trigger one or more of these mechanisms if it has.

Sounds pretty fun. A good way to see parts of SL that you might not normally find. A good feature at each stop would be something that tells you the ETA until the bar arrives to pick up passengers. (6 minutes until next ride!)
