Anyone here know how to work with transparent layers in PSP7 so they will show up as transparent in SL?

OK I'll start off with saying I know it has something to do with alpha channel but I know NOTHING at all about alpha channels although I do know how to do simple stuff with layers in PSP.

Someone told me if I made the base layer transparent then layered stuff over the top then it would work. Well...it's not. the image still shows as white where it should be transparent when I apply the texture to a prim.
What I'm trying to do is make a window without having to make separate prims for each part of the window frame. I know it's possible cos my prefab house has a wall texture that is partly window and you can see thru it.

HELP!

Wow - hugs *Cailyn*

I'm another person who has been struggling with getting the alpha channel to work. This was just what I needed. Thanks SO much!
