That's actually a lot easier than you'd think. Break it down into a series of cut & tapered cylinders, or tapered blocks, and it's actually a pretty simple shape. I've built many such arches, or vaults, or whatever they're called. The best known ones are probably the ones I made for Xenius Revere to put in his Chapel of Yule, which you can see in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_w7fI107Eg
Head over to Yule, and take a look at it, if it's still there. Click on the arches to see how they were put together. It's a lot simpler than most would assume. In case it's not, here's one example I just whipped up. See the outlines? Each piece is just a cut & tapered cylinder. All it takes is a little math, a little critical thinking about the basic shapes that make up the whole, and careful placement of each piece. In other words, it's just simple art. ![]() _____________________

And Chosens solution looks pretty much genius to me ![]() @Chosen: One question though on a detail of your solution. If i wanted to create the archbows with a sharp corner at their highest point as shown in the initial picture of this thread, how would i do that ? Is this also possible with standard prims ? Maybe by using 8 cylinders instead of 4 and more cutting ... ? |

Yeah, Xenius did a killer job on that chapel. (All I did was build the arches.) It was one of the very first really good examples of baked lighting for SL. In fact, it even served to silence some fairly outspoken critics of SL's graphics engine. I remember one in particular exclaimed, "There's nothing wrong with that engine!" upon seeing it.
It's really too bad that so few people have the knowledge and/or tools to create work of that quality. SL would look soooooo much better if such things were common knowledge. In any case, back to the question at hand. Whoops. You're right. I did the wrong kind in that first pic. Oh well. I hope it was still helpful. Here's one way to do the ones in the OP's link: ![]() It's just cubes, cut, hollowed, and tapered. I did that in about two minutes, since I have to run out the door for an appointment right now. If one were to spend a little more time with it, it could look a whole lot better. _____________________

OhhhhhhhhhMyyyyyyyyyyGaaaaaaawdddd....THANK YOU CHOSEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are the best. You do not want to know how long I have been wrapping my brain around this and ya know what? I knew...JUST KNEW cubes could be used for it...just couldn't get my brain around the curve and cube concept. I did improve on the design by cutting a bit more so the squares had a flush front so I could attach more vaults to each one and also did not have to hollow them out. Made the whole structure more solid looking. Again...Thank you so very much. Hi Briana ![]() _____________________
