Turning Off Building Mods Once in Place?

Is there any way for the owner of a prefab building to turn off the capabilty to edit the building once it is in place on the parcel? An hour ago I accidentally "took" the front section of my 45m x 28m two story showroom building back into my inventory when trying to move an object near the front entrance.
I was able to laboriously put it back in place, so no real harm done. But this kind of thing drives me nuts. My prefab is no copy, so I can't just rezz another copy if I accidentally delete a portion of the structure.
Which leads to the obvious question - is there some way of turning off building edit once my prefab is in place? I still need to be able to modify objects inside the building and outside the building on the same parcel. But if I could make it so that I can't "miss" when aiming at some object inside the building and effect part of the building instead, it would be a tremendous relief.
Any answers, ideas or pointers to threads that discuss this topic would be most appreciated.

I never heard of lock, except relating to SL doors. I just selected my entire building, right clicked and searched in vain for a "lock" option. Can I get a hint as to where this option can be found?
Thanks!

Its on the Object tab of the Edit window, a tickbox with the tickboxes for Phantom, Physical and Temporary.
Ticking Lock should solve your problem - you won't be able to move, delete or retexture while Lock is on. I lock all my builds because I've done the same kind of thing as you did more times than I can remember.

That did it! I had to lock the individual sections of the building separately, but the effect is still the same. Thanks so much, Wulfric for the complete explanation!
And thanks for the idea Kyrah, I'll definitely try that as well.

Yes, thanks for suggesting "lock", SuezanneC. Unfortunately I'm such a newcomer that I needed to be pointed to exactly where to find the option. <grin>

the fact that people would even sell a non copy prefab House is beyond my comprehension.
With the amount of moving and weird problems that can happen regarding asset servers, no copy on a prefab is bad news. I would contact the Builder and ask him for another copy.
If he or she or it is not a total scumbag, he or she or it should give you one, considering that you already paid him or her or it for the house...

Von, I agree with you to a point. If I was buying a small prefab starter house I would expect it to be copiable. But that is not the situation here. My very first building project of anykind outside of free houses in public sandboxes (which didn't always go well for me either) was a 45m x 28m x 10m showroom building for my main store. (I am totally new to SL, but I've been selling t-shirts from my website in First Life for more than 7 years - I have plenty of designs to fill this space.) This was not the best idea I ever had, though it turned out okay in the end. The showroom in question is the Imperium by Brennus DeCosta of DeCosta Designs. I've never met the man, but he is an extremely talented architect. I found this prefab listed on SLX for L$3000 but when I got to the showroom (which is spectacular) I was astonished that he was selling the Imperium there for L$1000! For that price the man should not have to enable copy, at least for a significant commercial building. In fact I messed up the first install of the Imperium so badly (it was all telescoped together) that I deleted the mess, teled back to the BDD showroom and bought another. The way I figure it I expected to pay L$3000 for this building and the two copies I bought set me back only L$2000. So I'm still 1k ahead on the deal. I will also give new prefab owners a handy hint. If your parcel happens to be on the boundry between two sims, be extraordinarily careful moving your building around. One of the factors in my botched first attempt to install the Imperium was that I was flying around trying to align this 28m wide building on a 32m wide parcel when I wandered into the neighboring sim. This caused me to fly away from the construction site in an uncontrollled fashion. So the make a long story short (way too late for that), I'm not the least bit upset about my showroom prefab being no copy. I just needed to find a way to lock it in place and thanks to the helpful folks here that mission has been accomplished. Thanks again, everyone! Just4yucks Miami Just4yucks Funny T-Shirts and Posters
