Forgive me if this question seems a little dumb, I'm a 2nd day noob, but loving it so far.

At this point, I've only bought the 'basic' membership, so I own no land. Is there any place that I can erect temporary structures (tents and such) for an event, other then a sandbox?

Thanks in advance!

There may be people with land that will let you to host an event, but get permission first. You can rent entire sims for special events, I think that is L$1000 per day.

I suppose I don't recall there being any sort of rule against setting up in a sandbox, but you have to keep it simple, and you run the risk of everybody else coming by and building around you.

And of course your items will get returned to you eventually.

Actually as far as I know you can't.They announced it as an upcoming feature, then they said it would be ready to go in mid August but they have yet to implement it.

I have been to events in rented sims. There was a caveman weekend in the vehicles sims. There was also a child AV event in Lime and Plum. They have been rented in the past but I dont know who you talk to about renting them.

I thought the caveman thing was Linden-run.

- The program to rent sims on a regular basis should start around mid-August. Sorry for the delay.

I haven't heard anything since, though it's possible I missed it.

Surely it will be more than L$1000 per day?

L$31,000 to maintain possession of a sim seems cheap =)

Yes, L1000/day per sim . That comes out to about US 180 / month at the current gom price of 1.45 / 250 Lindens which isn't that far off the 195 / month to rent a full sim. And LL would probably like to encourage more large scale events. It is good for SL.

Americana rented Lime and Plum for the 4th of July "Americana Rises Again" event. I think I remember $1,000 as the quoted price.

Garth and I also rented Lime last November for our wedding. (which unfortunatly was moved to our home in Clyde, due to griefer taking down the sim for almost an hour)

Ask owners of private sims too for ability to build in their sims.
We give permission to some.

Questions, Revised...
08-31-2004 08:07
Thanks for all who replied and gave me valuable info. I bit the bullet, upgraded my account, and am waiting for my inital land allotment from the "Land for the Landless" program.

However, I would still like to host some events from time to time, and I'm never online for the SL Event Planning class.

So now my question is as follows: What and where are some good public places to hold an event? Or, what are some good private places I could use with permission? Who should I contact?

Any recommendations?

That really depends on what kind of an event you want to host. Stage 4 is a public place to consider for teaching types of events. Lots of private land owners are happy to have you host events on their land because they get a dwell bonus for it.
