Blender - Problem making a New UV Texture

I was following the video "Creating Surface textures for sculpties with blender" step by step at Machinimatrix. The problem I was having is when I click the new UV texture button(time frame 3:44 in the video), I get a blue square in the image editor.

In the video the new uv image button is clicked while in edit mode. This is when I get the blue square. I played around a little and found I have to be in object mode before I click the new UV Texture button to get the correct image in the image editor.

Can someone tell me if this happens to them and if something has changed in Blender 2.48a since the video?

What you are seeing is correct. In object mode adding a UV Layer does a copy, in edit mode it creates a new "reset" uv layer.

I'm not sure when this was added to Blender, I'd have thought it was before 2.48a though.

Layla, thank you for telling this point. I will add a quick fix to the video in the next days. But i am also planning for a complete remake of the videos using blender 2.49 and i hope, we already can use primstar for it ... If i only had the time or at least could do all my planned tasks in parallel ;-(

cheers,
Gaia

I have updated the tutorial. The high quality version is now again available in .wmv format.
I have also added a note (text only) at the position in the video, where we create the secnd UV-texture. It is not optimal, but better than nothing.

The next version of the tutorial will be fully reworked and we are going to take your remarks into account. Thanks again for reporting!!!
