I've seen some buildings that have a light source on the ground pointing up against the wall and illuminating it and have also seen a light source coming from a wall illuminating an object. I would like to know how this is achieved. I've done searches to acquire the answer to no avail.

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

They are generally just textures on the wall themselves.

You can also simulate the effect of a cone of illumination by texturing a conical prim with a light color that grades from about 50% alpha to 100% alpha. Put a full bright light bulb prim and a lampshade at the 50% alpha end of the cone and it looks like that light bulb is projecting a beam of light.
