I can't figure out how to make one of the prims involved in making an Urn. Its like a torus, but thin in the halfway point and wider at the top and bottom. I don't know what to call it. Can someone help me out?

You'll either have to combine several prims gracefully or make it a sculpty. If I were you, I'd go the sculpty route. Try using Rokoru. It's fairly easy and well suiterd to making vase shapes.

If you want to use prims instead of sculpts. It's best two use 2 cut prims.
first make one half using the tapering options of a torus. Then copy it and rotate it and reverse the tapering to fit with the other half. That way the two halves will fit again to one tapered shape.

If you want to use Rokoku and make an urn there's a video on youtube that shows you exactly how to do it
