Wish List - Jules Vern Style Lot

I'm rather tired of all the gorean, slingo, mall, and same old crap lots. Only relief from it that has shown up recently is the City of Tomorrow that appeared on the Most Popular list. I wish someone would take movies like 2000 Leagues Under the Sea, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing, and Victorian Era architecture and design a really fun lot to visit. Here's some ideas I could see on such a lot:

1. Working steam engines used to power electric generators that look like something out of Victor Frankenstien's lab in the movie Van Helsing.

2. Carnival rides powered by steam engines via drive shafts and gears with pipe organs providing music. The carnival rides should have that style to them like many of the Jules Vern look to them or something like Rod Sterlin's The Time Machine.

3. Electric trolleys that travel the streets like the ones in either New Orleans or San Francisco. The trolleys should travel their routes on their own. Everyone on them just rides along.

4. Gondolas that travel down waterways throughout the city like in Vince. The should move on auto-pilot so couples can talk instead of having to worry about steering.

5. Victorian style ballrooms, tea houses, restraunts, pubs, homes, and shops. Products sold in the shops would have to fit the Victorian Era so as not to spoil the atmosphere.

6. Dock and pier area with steamboats and sailing vessels anchored. Also the Nautilus parked next to one of the piers. Near the docks, a New Orleans style French Quarter complete with warehoues, pubs, and boredelos to give it that seedy feeling.

7. Full size steam powered locomotive and train that people can ride to different parts of the island.

8. Avatars and clothing of visitors restricted to Victorian Era. Sorry, but furry wouldn't fit in. Well, perhaps if you had a Doctor Jeckle/Mr. Hide avatar set, that would be allowed.

9. Cobblestone streets with ornate old world style street lamps. Designed more for strolling along but perhaps a few horse draw carriages and antique style cars.

10. Of course, one street named "Baker Street" with Sherlock Holme's house on it.

11. Scripted objects that put together a "Pot Healer" style adventure through out the lot. But more in line with a Jules Vern story. Something that makes the place a sort of an adventure park.

12. An blimp or airship that looks something like the "Mythic Airship" from SLExchange that runs a route around the lot on auto-pilot, stopping at landing platforms to pick up and drop people off between destinations.

Well, guess if I ever won the lottery and had money to blow on hobbies, I could have something like this built. But reality is, I can only wish.

How about just building the bits in a sandbox, so that landowners start seeing them and buying them and using them when they think they're cool?

Ask in Products Wanted. This forum is for asking how to make things yourself.

Whoah, quadruple whammy here. Bad, bad, bad, bad:

1. Wrong forum - What Rolig said. Post your question in Products Wanted, where it belongs.

2. Necroposting - It's not a good idea to dig up ancient threads. What you replied to here began and ended on a single day in 2006, well over two years ago, and hasn't been touched since. Since such an old thread couldn't possibly have any bearing on any current discussion, you should have started a new thread of your own.

3. Off-topic reply - Not only did you resurrect a long-dead thread, your reply to it had nothing whatsoever to do with its original topic. Your topic was completely new, so you should have started a new thread for it.

4. Selfish request for private reply - Posting a question in a public forum, and asking that the answer be delivered to you privately is an abuse of the forum. When a question is answered publicly, it helps lots of people at once. When it's answered privately, it helps you and only you, which is not fair. If you can come to the forums to post your question, you can come back to the forums to read your answer.

Also, posting your E-mail address in a public forum is an open invitation for spammers and other malicious users to send you all the junk they possibly can. For your own safety, you should never ever do that.

Laputa is another place you might like to come visit, floating steampunk city focased mostly on airships with an air pirate port being built underneath
