Hi everyone. I made some jewelry that I'd like to "engrave" with simple text, but I can't for the life of me figure out how, and no one seems to be able to tell me. I keep reading there's a script for it, but to be honest I'm not very scripting-literate.
I've attached a couple pictures of some SL jewelry I found online with an example of what I'm talking about.
If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it a lot.
Love, Cat

You should use a texture for that, no script needed

That doesn't look like anything tricky to me. It doesn't require any sort of script. Just make a texture by typing out the words in your favorite font with the text tool in Photoshop. To make it look engraved, all you have to do is apply a bevel style to the text layer in Photoshop, being sure that it's bevelled down instead of up. Apply the finished texture to the appropriate face of your jewelry prim the same way you would apply any other texture.

Thanks!
One more question, how do I make sure the words show up in the right place on the ring, and is the right size? I'm sorta new to this. :3

Yes, and just playing with your Edit tool. Try fiddling with the controls on the Texture tab to adjust Repeats and Offsets. It's easy enough that you ought to be able to figure it out experimentally.

I'm actually using GIMP, which i've never used before... it doesn't seem to want to emboss the text... EDIT: Got it all worked out, thanks everyone.

I know that Amethyst uses separate prims on her collars and puts a texture of a letter for each to make the names modifiable. The others appear to be part of the texture itself. You can tell if there are separate primes on item by editing them and seeing if the boxes appear where the letters are.
Some scriptors use a tortured prim to position multiple faces in a row and then use textures of 2 sometimes 3 letters per face for a dynamic and low-prim text msg.
