Hi all. I am planning a city with a residential suburb, as part of the new community project that Linden just posted on the annoucements forum.
Basically, my idea is to buy up the whole sim and build a city(preferably on a harbor) to one side, and have a town on the other(maybe a mountain in between city and town?).
We would be completely self governed, with elected officials and our own laws. There will be building codes, but, not too strict. Mainly just to keep the look of a city intact rather than a mix of things.
For the most part, I will allow anyone to join the project, but, if someone causes trouble, they are gone. For key plots in the city and such, I will be asking what people plan to build, or, in some cases, assigning builds (through the city government).

Sounds like a great idea. After my late and disappointing arrival in Lindenberg Im anxious to get involved in an urban setting. Got room for a jazz club? Also let me know if you need any administrative help. Id be glad to be involved. Ill catch ya in SL. Great idea.

Cost of Sims/Building Codes
05-30-2003 21:34
Yeah, Im not sure exactly how big each sim is but it will be expensive. Taxes will be killer. I think it will take a pool of money from various people. For the town itself perhaps it'd be best to divide the city into districts. Each district could be owned by a city councilman. Subplots could be sold as more builders enter but until development starts full scale this could reserve the land without putting too much burden on any one person. I recommend some fairly strict building codes in the city. Nothing too specific, but I would recommend pushing for an authentic look. Defining exact codes it hard I know. Perhaps if builders were required to provide an email address contact communication could be improved. Things can really go down hill when players leave half built projects and quit the game for months. Communication is key I believe. What are some more specific ideas you have James? And when do you plan to start the project. I'm raising capital as we speak. Keep me posted.

City Project - Contact us if interested.

After talking to James I am even more excited about the city. The plan is for an urban city in the style of New York. With the new land about to be available finding partners to help fund the initial outlay is crucial. For any of you who are interested in a realistic city environment please contact James or me. I have read many posts about businesses/buildings that residents are planning to build that really belong in a planned urban area. Drop a line here or in SL if you are interested.
